Located a! 176 Oxford St. Hensall, Ontario P H : 262-2846 NOTICE To Residents of the Town . of Exeter The Exeter Public Utility utilize markers on fire hydrants in order that Firemen can immediately locate a hydrant in the event of a fire. While every effort is made to keep snow from hydrants, one severe snow storm can bury them to the extent that only the marker is visable. This year considerable damage to hydrant markers is being done by van- dals, and this damage jeopardizes the safety of residences of the Town of Exeter. This is a serious penalty under the Public Utility Act, as it could cause per- sonal injury or death in the event of a serious fire, when firemen ore unable to locate the hydrant. We would ask that children refrain from mutilating these markers, and we would also request that if any resident sees this being done to report it to the police immediately. Please remember that if a fire occurs and woter is not available, it could be one of your family affected. The co-operotion of all will enable the Fire Department with o reasonably secure fire protection system. Tho Exeter Public Utilities to provide you Commmisslon H.L. T -A photo Institute at Granton lean about wheels By MRS. E. SUMMERS Granton The Granton W.I. met at the home of Mrs. David Roloson on Tuesday after- noon. Following a dessert lunch, Mrs. Clarence Lewis presided and opened the meeting. In honor of the Scotch poet Robert Burns' birthday, Mrs. Lewis read the three verses of "Auld Lang Syne" translating the Scotch words into English. Mrs. Lewis also reported that she and Mrs. James Kerr had visited the Wildwood Nursing Home near St. Marys on January 12 and were very well received there by the residents. A number of business items were discussed and taken care of. The topic was Cana- dian Industries and the roll call was "What product of in- dustry is most useful in your home." The program 'was convened by Mrs. Elmer Summers and 'Mrs. Don Roloson. Mrs. Roloson read some humorous quotations from the Pepper and Salt book; these were on the new year, difficulties, dignity, and disappointments. Mrs. Summers enlarged on the motto which was "A wheel has to have all its spokes to run smoothly." She used the example, the hub would be the A.C.W.W. Associated Country Women of the World, the spokes would represent the F.W.I.C. Federated W.I. Canada, F.W.I.0. Federated W.I. On- tario andthe local branches of the W.I. Mrs. Summers also read the speech made by Mrs. Peggy Antrobus, United Na- tions session speaker, at the Vancouver triannual con- ference last summer. Mrs. Antrobus spoke on her ex- perience in working in developing countries. Her subject was equality, develop- ment and peace. Church news At the Granton United Church the Rev. Bruce Pierce conducted the morning wor- ship and entitled his sermon "Chasing Donkeys." His text was taken from 1 Samuel 9:1-5 and 10:1-12. "It seems rather strange to be talking about donkeys in a sermon," said the minister, but Saul wouldn't have met Samuel and he wouldn't have become king of Israel if he had not been looking for lost donkeys. Sometimes it takes an in- convenience to bless us. We ask the question, "Why?" But sometimes we do not wait for the answer. Even when things look bad, God is still working on us, it is His plan. Following the service next Sunday Granton United Church will hold its annual meeting. This will be preced- ed by a pot blessing lunch. At St. Thomas Anglican Church the Rev. Peter A.
