At Lucan schoo
Primary students delight audience
The little people of the
Lucan building of the
Biddulph-Lucan School
delighted their audiences in
the afternoon and the evening
.th their bi-annual
Christmas Concert recently.
Wallace McLay, principal,
welcomed parents and
friends, and also thanked all
for coming, at the close of the
concerts.
The kindergarten class
under the leadership of
Sharon Barnes presented
"The Five Christmas
Presents" playlet in word and
song, after first turning on all
the lights so the children
could see and wave to their
parents. Linda Lyons' grade
one pupils enacted "The Ding -
A -Ling Christmas Bell" also
in word and song, with some
of the children dressed up as
bells.
The grade two children
under their teacher Shirley
MacMillan gave all a vision of
"The Night Before Christmas
2002" and Kay VanDop's
grade two's presented
"Christmas in the Toy Shop -
the Night Before" when near-
ly every toy was represented.
The grade one little people
enacted "Davey and the First
Christmas" a sacred playlet,
with Marguerite McRoberts,
teacher, directing it.
Grade three "big kids"
under the direction of Dorothy
Nott presented "All Creatures
Great and Small" and the
grand finale was the massed
school choir under the direc-
tion of music teacher Lynn
Lanteigne, singing "There
Was a Little Baby" and "A
Singing Christmas Card."
It was a beautiful concert
and enjoyed thoroughly by an
excellent audience in the
afternoon and an overflow
crowd in the evening. Con-
gratulations to all the
children, their teachers and
Mr. McLay.
Small group for service
Although Christmas Eve
service had to be cancelled
because of stormy conditions,
a small group gathered
Christmas Sunday morning at
Lucan united Church to
praise God for the Gift of His
Son.
Rev. Brown lit the central
candle of the Advent wreath,
symbolizing Christ, Saviour
and Redeemer, King of Kings
and Lord of Lords. Special
music, in addition to the well
loved carols, was a solo by
Rev. Brown, "The Birthday
of a King."
"God's Love in Four
Dimensions" was the theme
of the Christmas meditation
based on John 3:16. The
breadth of God's love includes
men and women everywhere
with their needs and pro-
blems, no matter how sinful
or degraded they may be.
God's love goes to the length
of giving the One dearest to
His heart, His only Son, not
only to live in our world, but
to suffer and die for its sins.
The depths of God's love is
demonstrated in Christ's
coming from the heights of
glory to a humble birth in a
stable, and eventually to an
anguished and shameful
death on the Cross. Its height
is shown in His uplifting pur-
poses for those He loves, His
purpose that they should have
ev;:rlastirg life, beginning
now with a life of fellowship
with God and continuing
throughout eternity.
Our response to His great
love must be .o believe, to
open our hearts to I lint so that
He can fill us with the love
and joy of His presence.

Youth sponsor
holiday dinner
Young people of Lucan
United Church, with the
assistance of Postmaster Jim
Robertson, sponsored a
Young People's Christmas
dinner and film Monday even-
ing, December 19 at the
Church. Special guests were
Pastor and Mrs. Archie
Robertson with several of
their young people from
Egmondville, Ontario.
Linda Patterson, Peter
Bates, Mindy Bates, Belinda
Avery and Carol Cunningha m
took responsibility for prepar-
ing a c., licious turkey dinner,
served by candlelight, to a
group of about 25 young peo-
ple. Rev. and Mrs. Brown as
well as Youth Class leader
Wes Stanley with his wife
Helen, and sponsors Jim and
Flora Robertson were also
present as guests.
Following the dinner, the
group sang carols, then view-
ed the film, "A Thief in the
Night," a story built around
the promise of Christ's second
coming.
The challenge and urgency
of committing one's life to
Christ while there is still op-
portunity came through
clearly in this presentation.
Pastor Robertson met with
the group afterwards for a
discussion of the film's
message.
Saturday morning, the
young people met at the
Church for a hearty
breakfast, then enjoyed a
morning of tobogganing
before the group from
Egmondville returned home.
The young people plan to
meet early in January to set
up plans for continuing the
group on a permanent basis.
All young people ages 12 and
up interested in a Christian
group of this sort are invited
to participate.
