Exeter club hosts Zurich, Thursday
Mohawks, Sherwoods battle to South Huron draw
The top two teams in the
South Huron intermediate
hockey league met Thursday
night at the South Huron Rec
Centre and the Exeter
Mohawks and Hensall Sher -
woods played to a 6-6 tie.
With the tie the Mohawks
held on to their first place
lead over the Sherwoods.
In a Sunday contest, the
Sherwoods on the strength of
three third period goals edg-
ed the improving Zurich
Buckeyes 7-5.
In Thursday's stalemate in
Exeter Hensel' scored two
Waxers in
semi-finals
Sean McCann put the Ex-
eter Waxers team into the
semifinals of the Parkhill
Silver Stick novice tourna-
ment with a quick goal only
seven seconds into overtime.
Exeter 4 - Kincardine 3. The
win capped a total team effort
that saw the Waxers come
from a three goal deficit to tie
and then into overtime.
The win was the second of
the day for the Waxers. The
first game of the Sunday
schedule saw the Novice team
victorious over Mitchell 2-1.
For the two games, Sean
McCann and Ryan Stuart
each scored two goals. Steve
Farquhar and Ian Jean add-
ed one each.
The two tournament wins
over -shadowed league game
losses on Friday and Satur-
day to Parkhill and Lucan.
The season position now
moves to six wins and seven
losses.
The Parkhill tournament
continues on Tuesday with the
semifinal and championship
games. Check the Times -
Advocate next week for
results of final games pending
at press time.

In the first period, Brian
Mercer started the scoring for
the Mohawks on a three-way
effort with Mark Cronyn and
captain Barry Baynham and
Terry Caldwell came back
with the tying goal for Hensall
on a pass from Bryan Baker.
Baker put Hensall ahead at
16:07 on an unassisted effort
and a minute later Matt
Muller notched the equalizer
for the Mohawks on a similar
single effort.
In the second period, Terry
Caldwell scored the third
Hensall goal and provided the
pass for a successful shot by
Jamie Caldwell. Scoring for
the Mohawks in the middle
frame were Dave Jackson on
an unassisted play and Brian
Taylor on a pass from Brent
Atthill.
In the final frame, Exeter
went ahead with two goals in
the first five minutes of play.
Mark Cronyn registered on
passes from Brian Mercer
and Jim Guenther and Brian
Taylor was successful on a
play started by Dave Jackson
and Dave Atthill.
At 10:06 Terry Caldwell
converted a pass from Ken
Varley for the fifth goal for
the Sherwoods and 47 seconds
later Varley fired the tying
goal on a pass from Jamie
Caldwell.
In Sunday's contest the
Sherwoods led the Buckeyes
2-1 after the first period of
play, but, the Zurich club
came back to even the score
at 4-4 after 40 minutes of play.
Ron Rader who led the
Buckeyes with three goals
opened the scoring for his
club near the three minute
mark of the opening period on

Kinsman scored twice. He hit
one on an unassisted effort
and the other on a pass from

The Exeter Legion ban-
tams dropped all three games
they played in Shamrock
league action in the past two
weeks.
At home against Parkhill,
the locals fell behind early
and wound up on the short end
