Introduce
Katimavik
Dear Exeter and Area
Friends:
As my first trimester, as
well as 1983, draws to a close,
I would like to take this oppor-
tunity to thank all of the peo-
ple who have made myself
and the rest of the group feel
so very welcome. I am sure
that we have all made some
life-long friends.
Coming from Winnipeg,
small-town living was quite a
change for me. During the
time that I spent in Exeter, I
was fortunate enough to ex-
perience working at each of
our three worksites, Ausable-
Bayfield, the Rec Centre and
ARC Industries. Each place
allowed me to gain a greater
understanding of other people
as well as myself.
The highlight of my three-
month stay was billeting in
December 21, 1983
Grand Bend with the
Englerts. On top of learning
more about my prospective
career, nursing, I learned a
new way of life. They certain-
ly made my 18th birthday
something that I will never
forget.
All in all Katimavik has
presented a wide variety of
learning experiences, each
being as different as the peo-
ple that I have met. It has
opened my eyes 10 a rainbow
of choices hat are open for
me when the progrann ends.
On behalf of all of us, we
would like again to thank
everyone who has made us
feel at home and we would
like to wish you the very best
of the holiday season.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Scarnati
Salut! I am Kathy Barrick
and Katimavik had me im-
ported all the way from
Regina, Saskatchewan. I am
glad they did because even
though I applied for and was
accepted to university I would
rather travel than go to
school.
I am what Katimavik calls
a "float." The term "float"
means that I divide my time

between all three of the spon-
sors here in Ontario.
At the South Huron Rec
Centre we enj'y such things
as cleaning ice, preparing the
banquet hall and sanitary
engineering (cleaning
washrooms.) My specialty
however is coffee break.
At the Conservation Area I
spent a whole week :iuilding
muscle, and character, prun-
ing trees. Finally at A.H.C.
Industries 1 worked in the
bakeshop, life skills and
education areas.
Katimavik has given me an
opportunity to travel, meet
people, do things I've never
done before, live with you in
your community and sharpen
up on those domestic skills
(when was the last time you

Billetting has been the most
fun so far. Although Saskat-
chewan is an agricultural pro-
vince, 1 am strictly a city gal
and have neer lived on a
farm.
Living on the Bourne's
farm near Seaforth I learned
about horses, rabbits, pigs as
well as three-year-old twin
boys and babies 1 know there
is more to horses than just
riding and that sows do not
give birth on demand.
All in all I have enjoyed my
first rotation here in Exeter,
1 have made a lot of friends
and will miss them when 1
leave.
