Christmas is a time of great
celebration. You remember
that Christ was born this day.
If you read the Bible you will
find the story of Christmas. It
tells about Joseph and Mary
going to Bethlehem to be tax-
ed and finding no room in the
inns they rested in a stable
with all of the oxen, mules,
and sheep surrounding them.
The Bible then tells that Mary
brought forth her first born
son, wrapped him in swaddl-
ing clothes and laid him in a
manger. The manger was a
very lowly crib for such a
great child. Also, in the
Christmas story it tells of the
shepherds, wisemen and the
angels coming to Christ and
worshipping him. The
wisemen gave him gifts. Then
the child rose and blessed
Mary, Joseph, and everything
else in the stable..This is a
greatly remembered story
and has been told for almost
two thousand years.

Dear Santa,
I know how hard it must be,
making all those toys and
receiving all of those letters
and finding out what
the little children want for
Christmas. My little sister
Cara wants something
unusual. She said she was
hoping to get a picture of you
and your village. It means a
lot to her. Thank you.
Yours truly,
Chris Gardner

children a story by lighting
the fourth candle in the Ad-
vent Wreath which was the
Shepherd's Candle. The choir
rendered an anthem "Jesus
Our Brother" under the
leadership of the choir leader
Mrs. Rick Parker accom-
panied by the organist Miss
Agnes Bray.
The Scripture Lesson was
read from Isaiah 7:10-15,
Romans 11:1-7, Matthew
1:18-25. The sermon was en-
titled "A Taste of Beyond."
Isaiah 7:10-15 is a passage
often read in churches at this
time of year.
In this pas age a drama
takes place between Ahaz,
king of Judah and the prophet
Isaiah. Ahaz is on the path of
war - a war which will be
disastrous to his people.
Isaiah warns Ahaz of disaster
but the king will not pay at-
tention even to a sign from
God. Ahaz is afraid if he
backs down people will think
it is a sign of weakness.
At this point Isaiah pro-
phesizes the birth of another
king - another descendant of
David but one who will reign
in justice - the ideal king. For
generations the people of
Israel had waited for a special
leader. Any king descended
from David would have liked
to think they were that king.
In this passage Isaiah tells
Ahaz that king is yet to come!
As Christians we see this
passage pointing us toward
the birth of Jesus and his
reign of justice and identifica-
tion with the poor and op-
pressed peoples of our world.
Through Jesus we share
adoption as children of God.
A Christmas Eve Commu-
nion service will be held in
Elimville United December
24 at 8 p.m. A 25 percent por-
tion of the loose offering will
be going toward the work of
the CGIT. The CGIT girls will
betaking part in the service.
Sunday December 25 wor-
ship services will take place
at the regular hour. There will
be no Sunday School the next
two Sundays.
