Unit 1 of Granton UCW met
at the hone of Mrs. Glen
Jameson on Thursday after-
noon. Mrs. Gordon McRobert
presided and opened the
meeting with a reading "I
remember Christmas"
followed by a Christmas
hymn and scripture.
Mrs. Robt Hardie reported
that she had purchased an ad-
vent wreath for the church on
behalf'of Unit I. Mrs. Bruce
Pierce reported on the stamp
collection for the leprosy mis-
sion and also asked the
members to save empty pill
containers and the absorbent
cotton that is put in them so
they can be used in other
countries; also plastic bread
bag closures.
Everyone contributed to the
program with stories,
readings and poems. A
humorous skit entitled "From
Heaven Above" was
presented by Doreen
McRobert, Amelia Jameson
and Audrey Harloff. At the
conclusion of the meeting Rev.
Bruce Pierce said grace and
everyone sat down to a hot
turkey dinner with all the
trimmings prepared by the
hostess with black forest cake
for dessert.
Mrs. Rhea Hardie" was
hostess for Unit iV on
Wednesday evening. Mrs.
Gary Humphrey presided and
opened the meeting with
scripture followed by medita-
tion on a day of wonder.
Items of business were
discussed and taken care of
and the quilt was displayed.
All members contributed to
the program.
Mrs. Clift Hardie assisted
the hostess to serve a
Christmas lunch. Santa Claus
was there with presents and
everyone found out who their
mystery pals were.
Canadian Foresters
Court Valentine of Cana-
dian Foresters met Thursday
evening at the North Star
Restaurant at Elginfield for
their Christmas dinner party.
Invited guests were Mr. and
Mrs. Vidal Mills of
Dorchester.
Following dinner and ex-
change of gifts some contests
and the draw for a Forester
at Granton
coffee spoon won by Mrs.
Kenneth Hodgins, Mrs. Lois
Herbert, one of the delegates
gave an informative rt port on
the Western Ontario Provin-
cial Assembly held recently in
Niagara Falls.
Everyone brought a small
gift for the Cancer cupboard
at Thames Lodge, London.
Church News
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church Rev. Peter Derrick
was in charge of the morning
prayer service. The lessons
were read by Mrs. Clarence
Lewis and Kenny Beatson.
In the children's focus three
candles were lit in the advent
wreath denoting peace, faith
and joy by Lisa and Carrie
Moore and David Jones. The
rector explained that the third
pink candle stands for Mary.
The children were given a
card with the letter M on it to
hang on the Bethlehem tree.
A congregational supper
sponsored by the A.C.W. was
held in the parish hall Sunday
evening, Dec. 4. The film en-
titled "The littlest angel" was
shown also a sing -song en-
joyed. Treats were handed
out to the children • by Mrs.
Jack Noon.
At Granton United Church
Rev. Bruce Pierce was in
charge of the service on Sun-
day morning and officiated at
the Sacrament of Holy Com-
munion. The minister entitled
his sermon "What we miss at
Chi 'stmas".

Mr. and Mrs. Emerson

Miss Brenda Wallis of London
and Mr. and Mrs. Don Wallis,
Kirkton attended the christen-
ing on Sunday, Dec. 11 of
Krystle Amanda, infant
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Wallis of Sarnia. At
Grace United Church, Sarnia
with Rev. Douglas
Greenhough officiating.
Following the ceremony a
reception and family dinner
was held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Wallis.
Austin Hobbs is still a pa-
tient in University Hospital,
London after having suffered
a stroke recently. We're glad
to report Austin is improving.
Seventy-three members of
the Nixon family met for their
annual Christmas gathering,
in the Ilderton legion hall on
Sunday. Mr. and Mrs.
William Thomson, Mr. and
Mrs. Pete Blom, Miss
Frances Thomson and Mr.
and Mrs. Douglas Heighway
hosted this year's party. A
turkey dinner with all the
trimmings was enjoyed by
all. During the afternoon,
despite horrible weather, San-
ta Claus arrived to distribute
gifts from a well laden tree.
