Introduce
Katimavik
Hello Exeter. My name is
Richard Morris. I am one of
the participants in the
Katimavik program and so
far it has been a great ex-
perience for me.
I come from Ottawa. I've
just finished grade 12 and
have taken an interest in
reading and writing.
Along with three other peo-
ple in Katimavik, I work at
the Ausable Bayfield Conser-
vation Authority, most of the
time thinning out bush.
Exeter is a very nice place
and I was struck by the
hospitality of you people when
I came here. It's been a
highlight in my life so far.
Present 'Carol'
at McGillivray
The World Premier of
"Carol", composed by Nancy
Telfer, will be presented at
McGillivray Central School
on Thursday, December 8 at
8:00 p.m.
This work for childrens'
choir and piano has been
dedicated to Alice Lingard
who will be conducting the
work. Alice Lingard is a
music teacher in Middlesex
County, a director of the
board of the Kodaly Institute
of Canada, is a past director
of the Canadian Folk Music
Society, holds a Bachelor of
Musical Arts Degree from the
University of Western Ontario
and holds a Certificate from
the Kodaly Institute in Kec-
skemet, Hungary.
She has made considerable
contributions to children's
choirs over a period of years
and her contribution to music
education and music
educators through workshops
given in London, Toronto and
Calgary has been outstan-
ding. As a free-lance soloist,
she takes part in musical ac-
tivities in the community
where she lives, as well as in
other areas.
"Carol" was specially com-
posed as a tribute to the fine
musicianship and outstanding
contribution made to music
by Alice Lingard. Telfer, a
Canadian composer, took
great care in choosing par-
ticularly beautiful words for
this music.
Telfer currently lives in
Newmarket. She received her
Bachelor of Music Degree in
1979 from the University of
Western Ontario and since
then has composed over 50
works for solo performers.
chamber ensembles, or-
chestras, choirs and
children's groups. Her music
is published by six publishers
in Canada and the U.S.A.
Many of Canada's fine per-
formers have commissioned
her to compose music special-
ly for them. Her music is also
performed in Britain, Europe
and in the U.S
