WILL I ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM?
Remembering the deceased is a way of keep-
ing o loved one always alive in your mind. The
full-service funeral is the traditional and time -
proved woy of making sure your memories are
psychologically sound. A hill service with your
mutual friends and relatives present gives you
a final memory of lasting value.
While the immediate memory may be a pain-
ful one ofter the death of a loved one, this
poem may give you o new view.
As long as memory
(scalls,
those who die
may live.
Until our mind's eye
dims,
Immortality
we give. (Annon.)
It was Cicero who said, "the life of the dead
is placed in the memory of the living." And
from Maeterlinck's "The Blue Bird" - "how con
they be dead when they live in your memory?"

Gregg gets new job at old location
With only 26 patients left at
the Bluewater Centre for the
Developmentally Handicap-
ped at Goderich, centre ad-
ministrator William Gregg
has been named superinten-
dent of the young offenders
facility that will replace it.
He said Monday that 125 of
the centre's patients have
been placed in new homes
across Southwestern Ontario.
and "we expect to. relocate
another 14 by Friday."
While Wednesday is the se-
cond target date for comple-
tion of the moves, Gregg said
he is not concerned by the
delays He said "the dates
were tentative and flexible."
December 16 "is the date
we want everything to come
on stream and we want to do
it very cautiously," he said.
"We're dealing with human
beings. We want to be sure the
places they are going to are
well prepared and the clients
and people receiving them
are properly adjusted...
Gregg said some places are
being refurbished "and that's
caused some delay, but
nothing significant." He said
the centre won't place pa-
tients in new homes "until we

locate patients in community
homes as close to friends and
family as we can." he said.
About 90 of the centre's 166
workers were laid off by Mon-
day and the staff will be
reduced to 69 by Friday.
Gregg said the remaining
staff wil help close down the_
facility and make home
visitations to former patients
after the final patients leave.
He said an undetermined
number of the staff, "pro-
bably about 20", will be re-
tained in such jobs as
engineering • and grounds -
keeping "to keep the place in
a mothball state" before the
young offenders centre opens
in April 1985.
Gregg said he's "really en-
thused" about his new post at
the young offenders centre,
one of two such regional
facilities to accommodate 177
young persons aged 12 to 17.
Ile said the ministries of
correctional and social ser-
vices are studying plans for
"restructuring and. renova
tions" of the centre "to meet
the needs of the new facility."
Construction work is expected
to go to tender next spring.
About 160 employees are
expected to be required at the
new facility but "we won't
advertise for the staff until
some time next year." Gregg
.said.

Okay variance
for garage
Despite objections from
neighboring property owners,
the Exeter planning advisory
committee have approved a
minor variance for Dave and
Elizabeth Prouty to enable
them to erect a garage at
their p.-operty at 72 Thomas
St.
The committee did set a
condition that the couple erect
a decorative fence or planting
strip along the easterly side of
the proposed garage so the
external appearance will be
compatible with the surroun-
ding area.
In their presentation, the
Proutys explained that a
reduction in the zoning bylaw
sideyard requirement was
needed to allow vehicular ac-
cess to the garage and to
preserve an existing wood
deck.
At their meeting on
November 9, the committee
also approved 2,500 square
foot building to be erected by
Canadian Canners Ltd. to
house part of the corn pro-
cessing line presently located
in an existing building.
Members also viewed four
site plan proposals for Jack
Taylor's Stoneyridge
Developments Inc. subdivi-
sion. A public hearing into the
application is scheduled for
December 7.

Prevention Week and
prompts the following from ;
the Exeter Police
Department.
The idea for National Crime
Prevention Week grew out of
a desire by the Ministry of the
Solicitor General to make
crime prevention a national
priority and to encourage a
more co-ordinated and com-
munity based approach to
preventing crime.
Community crime preven-
tion means people sharing the
responsibility for making the
place they live in more
secure. In other words, the
police. merchants. citizens
and neighbours should all
work together to combat
crime in their area.
One example of this occur-
red in Exeter on Monday..
November 28 A local citizen
observed a minor theft Ile
obtained a description of the
• thief. the licence number of
his car and immediately
reported the incident to the
Police.
Within a tew hours. the per
son responsible was ap-
prehended. If this citizen had
not paid attention to what was
going on and acted as an in-
terested citizen, the police
would have had great difficul-
ty in locating the suspect.
In Tact, the chance of
recovering the stolen proper-
ty and the apprehension of the
suspect would have been
close to impossible. The
police department would like
to thank the citizen for his co
operation.
