From the left they are: Paul Marcott, french horn; Down Crabe; Michael Fournier, pianist; Ann Robert, violinist. The Women's Institute has organized a reception for concert -goers to follow each of the six concerts in the series. 731 Second musical program delights overflow audience The audience at Grand Bend United Church Wednes- day night gave a trio of young Canadian musicians a stan- ding ovation after their con- cert. It was the second con- cert presented by Grand Bend Association in cooperation with Youth and Music Canada with assistance from the On- tario Arts Council. Trio Caecilia played an ex- acting concert with con- fidence and skill for those music enthusiasts gathered at the church. As muni, as their musical skill was ap- preciated, their stage presence and their own joy with their craft was enjoyed. They are a trio of Quebec - born musicians who became a musical threesome while students at the University of Indiana. Pianist Michel Four- nier and Horn specialist Paul Marcotte were neighbours, as children, in Sherbrooke Quebec and 20 years later found themselves at the same music school in Indiana. Violinist, Ann Robert, with her powerful talent. was a natural for the trio. And she married the horn player and they continued their music education in England. The concert was exacting for the three young per- formers in the sense that the program was a display piece for their virtuosity and energy. On the other hand it was relaxing for the audience, because the performers took time to comment on the music and explain technique. Of particular interest was the fourth movement of a piece commissioned by.Youth and Music Canada, through a grant by Canada Council, for the trio. They explained and played the fourth movement of an abstract piece which was written with tone colour as a theme and which was played by the trio with great sensitivity. Vioinist, Ann, was brilliant throughout the Ravel Tzagne for violin and piano and the accompaniment by Fornier was good complement. Paul Dikas' Villanelle for French Horn and piano was rich and full of wonderful sounds which can be produc- ed by the tricky horn. It was in the last Brahms trio where the violin, in spite of Ann's strength, became a little obscurred with regards to the balance of volume with piano and horn. One of the more charming aspects of the concert was an encore - ,a Scot Joplin rag - played with pizzazz and humor by the young group. Concert Association, secretary -treasurer,. Ted Jackson, welcomed the near - capacity audience and in- troduced the group. The next concert in the series will be a bonus concert produced by area musicians and photographers entitled Sound and Image '84. It is be- ing organized by Music Association president, Dawn Crabe, and will feature flute and piano by Dawn and Lynn Tremain and photography by naturalist Terry Crabe and museum curator, Bob Tre- main. It will be held at the church January 25. Although the concerts, as a series, are sold out, there is still some seating in the church and interested persons could contact Nan r reele in Grand Bend to see about at- tending the four remaining concerts.
