football final to Godericla
"1 am sad to lose, but am
not at all disappointed in the
way we played." With those
words, Coach Dave Cox sums
up the general feeling of most
people who attended the
Huron -Perth junior football
final, Saturday.
South Huron coach Cox
called the match a clean, well
played football game, played
exactly the way he likes to see
it. He added, "If we charged
admission, I don't think there
is any way anyone would
want their money back."

game, winning the final 21-16.
The Vikings were the first to
score, with a touchdown in the
middle of the first quarter.
They failed to make the
conversion but gained an ex-
tra point later on a safety
touch.
Shortly into the second half,
South Huron tied the game,
making the score 14-14. After
tieing the game, the Panthers
kicked to Goderich and forc-
ed them back to within their
five yard -line.
Coach Cox said he was ex-
cited at this point and thought
his team could hold Goderich
back and get good field
position.
Instead, Goderich slowly
drove downfield and ended
the half with another
touchdown. After a successful
Goderich conversion, the half
ended with the Vikings ahead
21-14.
In the second half, South
Huron had a chance to tie the
match. On the Goderich four
yard line, however, the pan-
thers fumbled and lost out on
the chance.
In another opportunity to
score, South Huron kicked to
the Vikings and forced them
back within their 10 yard line.
The Panthers initially
hoped they would be able to
hold Goderich back and score
to tie the match. Goderich
surprised them, however, and
gave up a two point safety
touch.
This gave the Panthers
another possibility. If they
scored, they would win the
game and not just tie it.
In good position around
mid -field, the Panthers made
their last attempt at scoring
Instead, however, they funbl-
ed and lost the ball to the Vik-
ings. The game ended with
the final score of 21-16.
Bill Fisher scored both
South Huron touchdowns and
Brian Topp kicked both con-
verts.
Fisher has had a strong
season, running a total of 1750
yards in nine games or ap-
proximately 200 yards a
game.
The junior Panthers end
their season with an im-
pressive eight and one record,
the only loss being that of the
final.
In their only other meeting
this year during the regular
schedule the Panthers edged
the Vikings 2-1.
Next year, Coach Cox says
he should have a strong team
again. Although key players
like Sean Whiteford and Bill
Fisher will be at senior age
next year, around 20 players
will probably return next
season. Congratulations
should be extended to this
year's squad for their
success.
JUMP FOR JOY — The SHDHS junior Panthers signal one of 'the two touchdowns
they scored against Goderich in the Huron -Perth final at the local field, Saturday.
However, Goderich recorded a 21-16 victory to change the cheers to tears. Sean
Whiteford bucked over from close in on this play.

Cage camp
for PS kids
November 16,1983 Page 7A
In an effort to stimulate an
interest in basketball among
Exeter area children, South
Huron District High School is
presently running the South
Huron basketball camp.
The program has so far
been highly successful with
about 80 boys and girls in
attendance. •
Organizer Terry O'Rourke
a basketball coach from
South Huron, says he is
tremendously pleased with
the camp. Classes are held
every Tuesday night at the
high school and O'Rourke
says so far they have enjoyed
maximum attendance each
night.
Most of the youngsters par-
ticipating in the program at-
tend South Huron's feeder
schools where basketball is
not stressed to a huge degree.
• O'Rourke hopes that the
camp will stimulate interest
in kids while they are still at
a younger age. Hopefully,
',arose who enjoy the game will
pursue it further and develop
their skills at an earlier age
and become better players in
high school.
At the beginning of the
class, the kids spend about 35
minutes in two sessions where
they concentrate on twonew
aspects of the game. In these
sessions, they are coached by
members of South Huron's
basketball teams.
After the sessions, the kids
break into nine teams, each
with one of the student
coaches.
The games run for 20
minutes and every time a stu-
dent coach sees a spot where
he or she can instruct the kids
the game is stopped and the
