Aliso Craig
A mammoth birthday par-
ty at the Craigholme nursing
home in Ailsa Craig to mark
the 100th year for former
Lucan resident Lonnie
Philips attracted a couple of
politicians.
Dropping in to join in on the
celebrations were Ontario
New Democratic Party
leader Bob Rae and Lambton-
Middlesex MP Ralph
Ferguson.
After a few remarks Rae
took over at the piano and led
a lengthy sing -song which
was enjoyed by an overflow
throng in the home's
auditorium.
Rae said his party takes a
special interest in how seniors
of the province are treated.
He added, "I take great per-
sonal joy and satisfaction in
older people and we are
always working for legisla-
tion for their benefits."
He continued, "We show
our love for the older genera-
tion in the way we care for
them and one another. At this
stage of their lives we must
show we care by sharing. We
have to work harder to have
a fine place for all of us to live
and work."
Ralph Ferguson who
presented a picture to
Craigwiel Gardens said
Craigholme and Craigwiel
are "perfect examples of the
homes we have for seniors in
the rural areas."
Malcolm McLean, a direc-
tor of the home said
Craigholme lives by the
Christian ethics of caring and
sharing.
