Film viewed by fellowship The Ladies Community Fellowship met in South Huron High School Library in October. Nell De Jonge was chairman. A film "The Mountain of Light" was shown. This film showed life in New Guinea, and what a positive effect the Bible had on the lives of the people there. Shirley Funnel, a teacher and journalist spoke. She presently manages the i, lblishing of translated books and scriptures in the Philip- pines. She spoke of her work as a translator, and how she and another translator lived in a village where people were very afraid of many things and sacrificed pigs to keep fears and evil away. With the help of village peo- ple the Bible was translated into their language. The peo- ple of the village then started to worship God and believe in Jesus Christ and as a result stopped their sacrifices and the fears of evil were remov- ed. Shirley's talk was very interesting. The next meeting for Ladies Community Fellowship will be held in the Library of South Huron High School Nov. 17 at 7:45 p.m. The topic will be Battered Wives. A film will be shown and a speaker will discuss the subject. Women consider causes for wars The November meeting of Exeter U.C.W. Afternoon Unit was led by Thelma Russell and opened with the singing of 0 Canada followed by prayer. Marion Dearing announced the final arrangements for the bazaar. Committees were ap- pointed to look after sending Christmas greetings to shut- ins and buying Christmas gifts. Alma Rundle, in charge of the programme, noted that on Nov. 11, 1918 an agreement was signed to end all wars but it didn't work. She asked "What is Peace? Is it just the absence of war?" Psalm 46 was read in unison and Alma stressed the line, "Be still and know that I am God". Beryle Elgie read an article entitled "What Education for Peace could Accomplish". It claimed Sunday School teachers should be made to realize the existence of an awful gulf between Christian sentiment and organized power. Nothing will stop war short of a redistribution of power in society. We must take away the motive for war by eliminating the opportunity to exploit men for the sake of private profits and private wealth. Beryle pointed out that this article was written in the 1930's so we haven't learn- ed much. Hazel Miller read an ac- count of Mother Theressa's work in helping the poorest of the poor. This woman believes no one has the right to wealth while others have nothing. And that revolution is not confrontation but the coming together of people. In PHONE BOOKS COMING The introductory pages of the phone book have been redesigned, giving the public what Bell Canada says is a fast and easy reference for all kinds of telephone information. Drawings, bold -face headings, white space and symbols are used to make each section of information stand out in the 1983 directory for London -St. Thomas and surrounding area. Some 237,000 copies will be delivered, beginning November 15 and scheduled to end November 30. "This year's cover is a fiery explosion of „orange and yellow, representing fibre op- tics, the hair -thin strands of glass used to transmit data, voice and video communica- tions," says Peter Croome, local Bell manager. "We expect people will find it easier to locate and read in- formation in the introductory section because of the new format." j7 C1lS.7V C9V VCSV VV VV✓VVOC?V GNI VC C7V C7V GV=V V C7'V .'V Vca .'V CSV=(5Vsl✓V✓V.'V CSVV4,1 CHCS t7'(1C9tS C?f5 C7t] CM Oft CMS t'e( 6 g A a ler ris mas a ins with 2 HITACHI TS 3960 • 4 speaker • New Luminar Color Commander I1 • 17 Function detachable Remote Control See it at DASHWOOD 237.3428 tris art tots WV 02(.1 tpV trt1 tSV tSV *°V rift CSV rats V tSV t9'V tSrV t'7(1 aftt7V ems trV mks any aPcs 41P0 orti v'O CSV o'V oess 09u , 'O t.70 —elm omi 1 'o oft ts'o conclusion, Hazel referred to Dr. Simone of Toronto, who is following Mother Theressa's example.
