Attending were members of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 498, of Grand Bend, members of Bell Areospace, O.P.Y. of- f vers, members of Armed Forces frog : Ipperwash. Flags were marched to the Cenotaph by GeorgeGallant and Clarence McLennan. "0 Canada" and "0 Valiant Heart", was played on a recorder by Harry Hamilton. Sergeant in command was Chuck Howard and flag bearers, holding the Canadian flag and the Legion flag were George Gallant and Clarence McLelland. Master of ceremonies was Bill Sturde vant. Legion Chaplain, Father R. More than 500 people at- tended the hot turkey supper at the United Church Wednes- day evening. United Church women will hold their November meeting Thursday. Mrs. Olive Baker, former- ly of Grand Bend, now of Lon- don, spent a couple of days last week with Mrs. Olive Webb, and attended the sup- per at the United Church and renewed old friendships. Huron Country Playhouse Guild members held a dessert bridge. Wednesday afternoon, November 9 at St. John's Parish hall. There were 15 tables in play, some of which were euchre and scrabble. Door prizes for the event were donated by the Book store. Tenderspot, Farmer Bill's, Christmas Place and from the Guild president, Mrs. Tory McKenzie. presently in B.C. A bake sale of left over desserts concluded the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Ohrnayer, Grand Bend, and Inez and Van Horne, of Ex- eter, returned home Friday after visiting a few days with cousins in Saline and Pleasant Lake. Michigan. They en- joyed a lovely dinner at the American Legion. celebrating Ray Van Doren's birthday and the upcoming 50th wed- ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Van Doren on November 20. Grand Bend Womens In- stitute will meet Thursday in the United Church S.S. rooms at 7:30. Topic will be public relations. Guest speakers for the evening will be Alma Westlake. Zurich, co-owner of Colours, London, speaking on colours. Also attending will be district president and secretary of Huron South. Dolores Shapton and Jean Neil, of Crediton area. It will also be 4-H awards night for the 4-11 girls. The 4-H leaders and the girls mothers are in- vited to attend. Philip Walker attended the funeral, Tuesday November 15 of his uncle harry Red- mond, at Peterborough, who passed away November 13 Couples club meeting Eighteen couples club members met Saturday even- ing at the United Church. Their meeting time was taken up with a tour of the water works building at Port Blake, guided by Bill Sturdevant. Back at the S.S. rooms of the church, Donna Lovie gave a reading on "Images of water in the Bible". Lunch refreshments were served. Couples in charge were Donna and Larry Lovie and Marlene and Fred Desjardine. Restaurant - Pat Edwards; Tenderspot - Todd Desaulniers; Rollie'sSports - Gene Grenier; Village of Grand Bend - Bob Hedley. O.P.P. - Corporal McFadden; Bell Aerospace - Jack, Sherman. About 70 people returned to the Legion hall for lunch after the service at the Cenotaph. Grand Bend Legion membership has increased to over 50 in the past year since rules were changed to allow wives and children of veterans to become members. Darts, a long favorite sport with members, draws a live- ly crowd on Tuesday nights. Special suppers and an even- ing of euchre on Friday nights sees the hall packed with par- ticipants. Cribbage has been offered for Saturday afternoons. Members feel that the com- munity enthusiasm for the events has illustrated a real need for the gathering place. It is hoped that money raised from the planned activities will enable the group to add space to the hall for more ex- tensive community activities. Remembrance Day service Grand Bend Public School students of grades seven and eight under the direction of teacher, Doris Elliott, organized a Remembrance Day program at the school Friday morning. Master of Ceremonies, Steve Mathers, welcomed parents and friends. After the singing of the National An- them and reciting the Lord's Prayer, Julianne Rader read the 23rd Psalm. Scott Boyd, Scott Hayter and Jeff Mathers gave a reading explaining the mean- ing of Remembrance Day. A poem "Why Wear the Pop- py?" was read by Jennie Bumstead. After two songs, statements of remembrance and dedica- tion were read by Fred Macey, Claud Dykstra, Patti Page, Barb Schottroff, Todd Hayter, Mike Bressette, Jarett Kobe and Stephen Lingard. A film strip was shown and those assembled were asked to stand for the singing of "On- ward Christian Soldiers." Louise Lawson closed the service with a benediction.
