Douglas Peart, surveyor, com- mented on the harmony which ex- isted between the board, the medical staff and administration. Several reasons are obvious and can be cited without an indepth review of the situation, namely, - the close proximity and the specialites existing within the London hospitals 25 mils away; the lack of epidurals during deliver; the decline in birth rate in recent years, affecting both the obstetrical and paediatric areas; and the absence of a resident surgeon in the community. The board has chosen to address this issue in the months to come and has empowered a comittee to be struck for this purpose. Local citizens, representing various segments of scoiety, will be invited to sit on this committee to assist in the deliberations and the recommen- dations which will result. All avenues will be investigated in- cluding the financial implication of introducing new programs - ironical- ly, this is essentially the task that the Founding Members debated thirty years ago, the difference, of course is that they have laid the foundation and provided an edifice from which today's planning can commence.
