With him are motes Jeff Rowe, centre, and Ed Willis, to the far right. Hawks continue to win If the Exeter Hawks con- tinue to score goals at their current clip, the toughest job on the squad may be that of statistician. Running their unbeaten string to eight games in this year's exhibi- tion and season play with a 13-3 romp over Port Stanley, Friday, the locals upped their goal production to 33 in their last three games. The Hawks still trail Seaforth in the northern divi- sion standing but had three games in hand over the Centenaires. Lucan remains tied with Exeter for second spot but they also have played more games. Exeter will get•a chance to pick up some of those games this week when they play three times, two of which will be on the road. Tonight (Wednesday) they tangle with the Irish in Lucan and the teams will be out to prove some supremacy after battling to a 5-5 draw in'their first meeting in Exeter. The Tavistock Braves, defending OHA champions will be at the rec centre on Friday. The Braves got off to a slow start with two straight losses, but had become con- tenders again and have shown they too can blink the red light in the double figures. The Hawks complete the week with a Sunday night game in Thamesford. Shell -out shots The Hawks observed Hallowe'en early when they hosted Port Stanley on Friday and shelled out a total of 84 shots on Ray Gown in the Lions net. Gown kept his team in the game until mid -way through the second period when the locals finally wore him down and scored 10 goals in the final 30 minutes. Exeter led 3-1 after the first stanza and the Lions pulled to within one at the 9:16 mark of the second before the roof caved in. Bill Glover and Pete Tuckey paced the onslought with a `tat trick each, while Tony Jones added a pair. Singles came off the sticks of Brian Horner, Ed Willis, Scott Brintnell, Steve Batten and Mike Clark as all three lines dominated play when they were on the ice. Clarke led the assist parade with three, while Rick Lindenfield, Jones, Kris Bedard, Horner and Willis had two each. Adding singles were Steve Prout, Batten, Mark Kirk, Jeff Rowe, Tuckey and Glover. Goalie Pete Dearing was the lone player to miss out in the scoring parade and he had a comparatively easy bine in recording the victory as many of the 36 shots stopped were from well out. He came up with several key saves ear- ly in the second when the Lions mounted their main of- fensive thrust. Exeter sat out nine of the 17 minor penalties called by referee Ray Richards and they scored twice on the power play while holding the Lions to one goal while they had a man advantage. Junior season ends The basketball season end- ed Monday for South Huron's junior team. Their three wins and seven loss record did not qualify them for the six team Huron -Perth playoffs. However, the juniors had, one last resounding victory, Thursday over Seaforth. The 43-18 win was a good team ef- fort. They played together with good passes. Playing in front of a home crowd ob- viously encouraged the young keeners. Dianne Dearing scored 13 points with Chris Coates and Kristyn Lovie each adding 8 points. Monday's 34-11loss to Strat- ford Central was rather anti - climatic. It was a disappoint- ment after the joy of the Seaforth win. Coach Pat Rowe said "the team was fun to coach" and hoped the girls learned from the experience. The young team should develop into strong basketball players if they maintain their enthusiasm. Lose next three Midgets beet kdsrlcb to start season The Exeter midgets started off the new Shamrock hockey season with an excellent per- formance in defeating Goderich 9-1. Then came three straight defeats, one to a superb London club. The other two losses were 8-3 to llderton and 4-3 to Strathroy. In the opening season vic- tory, coach Ron Bogart said his team displayed excellent passing form, especially for so early in the season. After Goderich had taken a 1-0 first period lead, the Ex- eter midgets roared back with four second period goals and added five more in the final stanza. Captain David Skea fired the first Exeter goal on an unassisted effort at .21 seconds on the second period and only 20 seconds later Steve Gould notched the first of four goals of the night on a pass from Jeff Pfaff. The other two Exeter se- cond period scores came front the sticks of Scott Bogart and George Pratt with assists go - BEST IN THE FIELD C91113 SALE«Ill SAVE 20% Now through Nov. 30 buy $loo. or more of Case Agricultural Maintenance and Repair parts in stock and get a 20% cash discount. In the 8-3 loss to Ilderton Scott Lovie and Sean Whiteford scored Exeter goals on unassisted efforts and Chris Tiedeman con- verted a pass from Jeff Pfaff. Craig Harvey was best of U- derton with a four goal effort. Keith Herd was next with a pair of scores and Glenn Mar- shall and Dave Murray scored in single fashion. In Wednesday's 4-3 toss to Stratlu'oy, the otitcome was in doubt tight to the final bell with the winning goal coming only a minute and four seconds remaining. Scott Bogart and Chris Tiedeman scored for the locals on solo dashes and Bud Richardson hit the opposing net on a pass from Scott Lovie. Saturday, the midgets par- ticipated in a referee's clinic in Parkhill and were dumped 13-1 by the London Jets. After the game coach Ron Bogart commented, "We were told it was going to be a minor midget team from Lon- don, not saying it was the Jets. They are one of the best midget teams I have seen in a long while. They complete- ly outclassed us." The only Exeter goal was fired by Scott Lovie on a pass from George Pratt.
