Dave and Marie Gelinas and family have moved into the Robert Westlake home on Goshen Street. The Westlakes in turn have taken up residence in the former home of Ellen Batatone. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Turkheim attended the Autumn Convocation at Alumni Hall, Western Univer- sity in London on Friday, Oct. 28. Their daughter, Mrs. Marion Billington was one of the graduates receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree. Andrew and Alida Rau are happy to announce the arrival of a little granddaughter, born to Terry and Helen Rau of Chatham on Wed., Oct. 26. Andrew and Alida Rau and daughter Mary -Lou Turkheim spent last weekend in Detroit visiting with Alida's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Quenneville. Donna Klopp, Annie Fink- beiner, Luella Willert, Edith Hohner and Anne Flaxba-d attended the L.C.W. district assembly in Milverton last Wednesday. The new study book "Jesus Means Life" will be introduc- ed at the U.C.W. meeting this Thursday night. A filmstrip will be shown. Mary Reid has been a pa- tient in Stratford General Hospital following eye surgery on Friday. Here's a tip I learned from my sister - if you're annoyed with the way the new longer milk bag fits the pitcher, bend a piece of cardboard to fit in- side the front of it. It should extend a few inches above the pitcher. The bag then slips in easily and is held rigid while pouring. The good autumn weather we've had this year has kept the gardens producing late. 1 was able to pick enough pole beans for a meal last week, some berries, kohlrabi, cauliflower, tomatoes and red peppers. We had enough huckleberries for many a pie from just a few plants. The deer hunters will be hoping for some snow by next week to bring down the remaining leaves. Varna 441 Glamour Gals The 4-H programs were covered in one meeting of the Varna 4-H Glamour Gals at Kate Keys' home on October 24. The girls had fun with a game of Buyers Bingo. Julie -Webster, Julie Consitt and Janet Coleman, after only a few minutes' preparation time, did an excellent skit "A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed". Preparation started on a skit for Achievement Night which will be on November 17. It's entitled "Happiness is Keeping Fit." One more session to finish book covers and practise the skit will complete this fall's program. (o1 /en (j/inpJeJ Now that we are oack on standard time, it will make the day -light hours so short. Perhaps more visitors might take advantage of the long dark evenings to visit the residents. Movies were shown on Mon- day evening followed by a social time. The Ladies of James Street United Church, Exeter, spon- sored the November birthday party on Tuesday evening. An enjoyable program was presented by the group in charge, followed by refreshments. Residents having birthdays during the month of November were Mrs. Vera Brintnell, Mr. James Clarke, Mrs. Pearl Gale, Mr. Aaron Gingerich, Mrs. Ada McDonald, Mr. Gerald Sreenan and Mrs. Milverna Truemner. Birthday gifts were presented, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary. A thank you to the Manage- ment of the Ducharme Or- chards for the delicious ap- ples donated. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sreenan on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. We are pleased .to have Mrs. Ruby Fowler who has been in South Huron Hospital for sometime, and formerly of Maplewoods Apartments, join her husband here. Also a welcome home to Mrs. Agnes Sillery who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital for several months. Residents who have been out recently are Mrs. Oriole Westlake, Mrs. Milvera Truemner and Mr. Aaron Gingerich. Bingo was played on Friday evening followed by refreshments. Rev. Bob Matheson of Thames Road United Church was in charge of the chapel service on Sunday evening. who were married on Satur- day at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with dinner and reception later' at the Dashwood Community Centre. Farewell to Harold (Gib) and Dorothy Stade who mov- ed to Kelowna B.C. (Okanagan Valley) this past week. Their son Richard from B.C. was here helping them. Albert and Mary Liboiron and two -month-old Andrew of Calgary, Alberta, recently visited with his aunt and un- cle, Blanche and Bill Ducharme for a few days. Bonnie Schenk, Patti Rau and Gail O'Brien enjoyed a twoday stay in Chatham at the Wheel's Motor Inn while attending an advance hair cutting and styling seminar last week. Teles Denomme of Pain - court recently visited with his sister Mrs. Florence Denomme for a few days.. Just a reminder not to forget to come to St. Boniface School gym this Saturday, Nov. 5 anytime from 10-4 p.m. as lots will be going on at the bazaar - hot dogs for sale, penny table, fishpond for children, bake table, crafts and much, much more. Every town: Saturday, Nov. 12 is the Fall Bazaar and Bake Sale at the Bluewater Rest Home from 2-4 p.m., sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary. Any donations %. ould be greatly appreciated. Congratulations to Ruth Anne Bechler and Bill Herron who were married in London on Saturday at the Church of Christ. The bride is the daughter of Ivan and Gladys Bechler, RR 1 Zurich. A fairly good crowd was in attendance at Bro. Bob's Bingo on Saturday with lots of winners and the lucky one to win the 8100 jackpot was Lee Regier of Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. Milfred Overholt along with her mother, Mrs. Adella Regier spent from Thursday night to Sunday visiting with family members in Windsor. Joy Hogg of St. Joseph's is presently visiting with her mother in British Columbia. Ray and Rebecca Geromette of St. Clair Shores visited with her parents Lu- cien and Nora Corriveau last Thursday and Friday accom- panied by Cecilia Geromette who stayed with her sister, Mrs. Dennis Charrette at RR 2 Zurich. On Sunday Jean and others to new addresses called on the Corriveaus. On Wednesday morning, Nov. 9 beginning at 9:3o a.m. till 11:30 "Morning Break" will be held at the Zurich United Church with Martha Weigand of Dakhwood teaching Bread Art, followed by Bible study. Babysitting will be available. Everyone welcome. Best wishes for a s recovery are extended to Ethel Regier who is a patient in University Hospital, Lon- don and Ruth Church who is in St. Joseph's Hospital. Last Thursday and Friday was the London Area Women's Institute 69th Con- vention held in St. Marys, On- tario at the community cen- tre. Veronica Glen of Van- couver spent a week recently with her mother, Mrs. Josephine Dietrich. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Regier spent from Thursday to Monday in Windsor visiting with their two daughters and families plus some Regier relatives. Ted and Jean Geoffrey motored to Windsor on the weekend where they visited with Al and Doris Regier, and daughter Colleen and Dan Wilson and family in Blenheim. Several friends of Cathy Merner helped her to celebrate her 13th birthday on Friday night with a pizza sup- per and slumber party. Mrs. Juliette Denomme returned home on Sunday after being away for a week visiting with her chidren in Rondeau Park and Elden and Luciene Denomme in London. Mike and Donna Caers at- tended a four day insurance convention in Peterborough last week. A fun time was had by all at the Hallowe'en Masquerade party at the Bowling alley on Friday night. Also some of the ladies teams dressed up on Monday. Kenneth Westlake, Sarnia, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Friday, October 28 from the University of Western Ontario at the Fall Convocatiwi.
