On Sunday, Thanksgiving supper guests with Helen Overholt and family were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Rock and family of Monkton, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Otten, and Mark cf Lucknow, Mrs. Jean Holmes and Robbie of Seaforth and Mrs. Leila Becker of Zurich. Mrs. Ivan Willert of Lady- smith B.C., recently spent four days visiting with sister- in-law Anne Willert and relatives and friends in town. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Rau, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Overholt and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rau recently enjoyed going to Frankenmuth, Michigan for a couple of days. Varna 4-H choose club name The Varna 4-H Club held their second meeting at San- dra Turner's on September 26 at 7:00. We opened the meeting by repeating the 4-11 pledge and motto. All nine members were present. We did some exercises taught to us by our leaders Kate Keys and Sandra Turner. If you repeat these ex- ercises daily they will keep you in shape and fit. After we completed everything we played two games, Stand Up for Nutri- tion and the Smart Shopper Game. Janet Coleman was the winner in the Smart Shop- per Game. We discussed a name for our club and finally chose Glamour Gals, suggested by Julie Consitt. The third 4-H meeting of the Glamour Gals was held at the home of Kate Keys on Mon- day October at 7 p.m. Linda Postill was our special guest and demonstrated different styles of curling irons and blow dryers. Different kinds of shampoo were then discussed. Linda showed us how to wash, dry and style our hair properly. The family of Anne and Earl Flaxbard celebrated Thanksgiving day and supper with them on Saturday. Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. are presently spending a week vacation with their daughters, Michelle Gelinas in Vancouver and Melissa and Dave Beer and family in Mis- sion, B.C. Congratulations to Tony and Marie Laporte who recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. The ladies auxiliary of the Blue Water Rest Home met last Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. The program was en- joyed listening to Bob Heywood play several selec- tions on his accordion and sing, followed by lunch and meeting in the board room with 23 members present. Thelma Thiel reported sen- ding nine birthday cards to the • residents during the last month, especially to Mrs. Jessie Brock, 90 years old. Verda Baechler gave a very vg.1Ittt1MMIMIN interesting report on the 3 -day convention she recently at- tended in Toronto. President Margaret Gingerich set the date for the Bazaar, Tea, Bake and Pen- ny Sale for Saturday, Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 at the home and committees were set up. A motion was made to buy a bird for the residents and look into buying a stove they could use themselves to do some baking as a past -time. Last Monday, the Women's Institute held their monthly meeting at the township hall with a pretty good turnout. Eleanor Lawrence and Vera Thiel were in charge. Gertie Fleischauer accompanied on the piano for opening songs. Guest speaker was a V.O.N. Jan Moore, working with the Home Care program in Clin- ton, who showed some in- teresting slides on the topic. Also that day president, Joan Smith and Ina Neeb attended a Huron County Institute Ral- ly in Bluevale, Ontario. A bridal shower held for Ruth -Anne Bechler on Satur- day, Oct. 8 at the home of her mother Gladys Bechler for 25 friends and relatives, was given by her sisters, Marlene Hamilton of Forest, Linda Fisher, 'Zul ich and friend Marion Coleman of Varna. A very special guest of the day was Ruth's grandma, Mrs. Mary -Ann Oesch of Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall. A big thanks to Mike O'Connor Ambulance Service for making it possible for her to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Reder, Bayfield and Mrs. Emma S.:hilhe, Zurich were Thanksgiving dinner guests with Murray, Janet, Kevin and Kim McEwan in Bothwell on Sunday. Mozart and Julie Gelinas Jr. and three children along with niece Heather Sweeney and friend, Paul Klopp spent the holiday weekend up north. Mrs. Dolores Schilbe and her mother spent last week visitingwith her sons Dave in Calgary and Dan in Athabaska near Edmonton. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Pat- sy Meidinger and Doreen Regier who are patients in Victoria Hospital, London. And to Maddy Smith who has returned home from the hospital. Several members of Zurich Mennonite Church enjoyed a M.Y.F. Retreat at Chesley Lake Camp from Friday to Sunday. Congratulations to Elaine Love and Gordon Hampton who were married on Sat. Oct. 8 at Carmel Presbyterian Church, Ilensall, followed by dinner and reception in Hen- sall. She is the daughter of Jim and Marj Love, RR 1 Zurich. A stag and doe was held for Mary -Anne Regier and fiance George McCormick by friends from the area in II- derton on Friday evening. Mary Anne is the daughter of Clem and Theresa Regier, RR 2 Zurich. Roy and Marg McQuaid of Oshawa along with- Father Jim McQuaid of Seaforth and Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Denomme and family were October all Thanksgiving dinner guests on Sunday with Martin and Cheryl Gelinas and two children, Zurich. Ken and Dorothy Breakey are home again following a trip to Wisconsin returning by way of Sault Ste. Marie, Sud- bury and the Levack area, where Dorothy was born. Coming down from North Bay they called on friends in South River and spent a few days with Dorothy's brother, Ben Corless and his wife at Minden. A good time was had by all at the Debus family get- together on Sunday in Strat- ford at the home of Leo and Gail Debus also celebrating Thanksgiving. Visitors visiting from town were Mr. and Mrs. Doug Debus and family and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bedard and family. 4-11 The fourth 4-11 meeting of the Beauty Bunch was held on Weuuesay October 15. They started the meeting with the roll call and proceeded with other business. Mrs. Mary McAdam of Clinton represented Mary Kay Cosmetics and gave each of the club members and their mothers a facialand a sample of make-up to try. The even- ing was enjoyed by all, follow- ed by lunch of cupcakes and a drink. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Bedard, Hensall attended the Billings Ovulation Method of Family planning conference held at the Holiday Inn, London from Fridayto Mon. on behalf of St. Boniface Parish and found it to hi very interesting. Mr;. Jeanne Bedard of Windsor accompanied by friends, Joe and Elmida Duguay spent last Saturday with Carmel Sweeney and family. Hay township clerk, Joan Ducharme attended a two day convention tor Municipal clerks in London on Oct. 5 and 6. The second last Lions club meeting at the hotel had as guest speaker Deputy District Governor Dr. Jim Loucks of St. Marys, who told everyone of Regional Rally on Nov. 28 in Wellesley.
