Shower for Varna girl
in township hall

Elizabeth McAuslan was
the recipient of many lovely
and useful gifts at a bridal
shower in Varna hall last
Thursday evening. Bernice
Reid welcomed everyone,'
Faye Ann Love and Cheryl
Turner entertained with piano
soios and Sandra Turner put
the ladies to work on a couple
of challenging contests. A
group of seven girls con-
tributed some very pleasant
harmony, accompanying
themselves with ukuleles and
piano. Hopefully, these girls
will get -together often, as
Mr. Bee says: Specials

are program conveners for
the UCW Thanksgiving
meeting on Thursday evening
October 6. They will be show-
ing a filmstrip from the
OMAF office on food
processing.
4-11 club news
The Varna 4-H Club held
the first meeting of the club
"Looking Good Feeling
Great on Septemuer 20 at
Kate Keys' home. The
meeting opened with the 4-11
pledge and followed with the
election of officers; president,
Mavis Turner; vice-
president, Julie Consitt. We
will have a roving secretary
We opened our project
manuals and read, discussed
and filled in the blanks of our
books. The club is about con-
suming, grooming,
marketing, etc.
Club members are Mavis
Turner, Kathy Rathwell,
Julie Consitt, Janet Coleman,
Jeanette Keys, Julie Webster,
.lanet McBeath and Tracy
Talbot. Our leaders are Kate
Keys and Sandra Turner.

Parish ladies at Henson Deanery meeting
Harold, Ora and Ross
Horner returned home from a
three week vacation visiting
with their son and daughter-
in-law Wayne and Helen
Horner and family in St.
Paul's Alberta, and are hap-
py to announce that grand-
daughter Shelley was named
Queen of the Rodeo on Labor
Day weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Flax -
bard spent Sunday with
daughter Shirley and Ross
Cooper and family in
Ingersoll.
A very nice day was had by
10 ladies last Wednesday
(eight from St. Boniface
Parish and two from St.
Peter's C.W.L.) when they at-
tended a Deanery meeting in
Hesson.
The new Diocesan Director
is now Fr. Blonde of
Wallaceburg.
President, Helene Regier
from Mt. Carmel opened the
meeting and welcomed
everyone present (114 ladies).
There were also eight priests
present including Fr.
Mooney, Fr. Bensette and Fr.
LoBack from Goderich.
Next year's convention will
be held in May in Sarnia. One
important thing to remember
is - If you are too busy to pray,
you are too busy.
Fr. Mooney attended a
three-day Rural Life Con-
ference in Des Moines this
past week.

It is nice to get up in the
morning and find that our
good weather is still with us.
More of our Residents will be
able to get out in the bus and
enjoy the scenery, especially
wheel chair people as we now
have a lift installed in the nevi
bus. We are indebted to the
estate of the late Mr. Arthur
and Grant Edighoffer for both
the bus and the lift.
We are beginning our
winter program of inovies
commencing this Monday
evening.

A Mystery Tour was en-
joyed by the Golden Agers
last Monday September 26.
They went by bus to Toronto,
where they took in several
sights, such as going to the
Country Gardens in
Markham. Then on to Acton
to the Olde Hide House,visited
an apple orchard and gift
shop, then stopped in Milton
for supper at the Muddy
Duck. Everyone had a good
time. Those on the trip
celebrating recent birthdays

Margaret Kalbfleisch, Nelson

Mrs. Erma Gascho, Mrs.
Jessie Brock, Mrs. Westlake,

Bingo was played on Friday
evening followed by
refreshments. Miss Darlene
Sillery also entertained the
residents on Friday with
piano solos.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Mr.
and Mrs. Eric Luther of
Hensall.
Squire, Alma Ryan and
Josephine Dietrich and Eben
Weigand of Dashwood. Each
received a small gift. Con-
gratulations were also con-
veyed to Elroy and Myraline
Desjardine who celebrated
their 39th wedding
anniversary.
Mrs. Gen Doyle spent the
weekend in Detroit and at-
tended a bridal shower for the
fiance of a grand -nephew.
The third meeting of the
Zurich 4-H "Beauty Bunch"
was held on Sept. 26 at the
Hay Township hall with
special guest Bonnie Schenk
who demonstrated her skills
on some of the members and
gave some beauty tips on how
to manage and take care of
your hair. The next meeting
will be held on Monday at 6:30
p.m. with mothers attending
and a make-up expert.
A bus load from town was
among several thousand peo-
ple who took part in the Giant
Pro -Life Rally at Queens
Park in Toronto on Saturday,
October 1 to protest against
abortion and clinics in
Ontario.
An Encore for Youth was
held at St. Joseph's parish on
Sunday, attended by many
from this area.
The "New to You" used
clothing store will be closing
on Saturday, October 8 but
clothing can still be taken
there for redistribution. The
committee wishes to thank
everyone who helped with the
operation.
Little Natalie Elizabe'h
VanderBurg was baptized
last Friday by Fr. Mooney
with godparents being Peter
and Cindy VanderBurg of
Huron Park. Natalie is the
daughter of Hariet and John
of Hensall.
Lucien and Nora Corriveau
spent a few days recently in
St. Clair Shores, Michigan
with Ray and Rebecca
Geromette. Sunday visitors
were Nora's sister Jean and
George Kochutt of Kitchener.
The rec league ball team
enjoyed a end -of -the -season
banquet and dance at the
Zurich Community Centre
Saturday night with a
delicious roast beef dinner
catered by Birdie Finkbeiner
and staff, followed by music
by a disc jockey.
Jim and Madeline Cook and
sons Kevin and Jason of
Hamilton spent Friday and
Saturday with her parents
Percy and Marie Bedard Sr.
Daughter Julie Becker and
little Andrea of St. Thomas
are presently spending the
week with her parents.
Those who missed signing
up for the Zurich and Area
figure skaging lessons last
week can still do so by phon-
ing Carol Deitz at 236-4574.
Best wishes for a speedy
recovery are extended to Col-
leen Kegler in University
Hospital and her sister
Carolyn, in Exeter Hospital.
Both girls are daughters of
Karl Regier.
