The South Huron in-
termediate hockey league
season for 1983-84 will likely
involve six teams.
At a recent meeting the
Zurich Buckeyes, Centralia
Beginner races
end Thursday
Thursday, the second last
beginner's race in the new
Ilully Gully beginners' series
was held. As in past races, the
enthusiasm of the new riders
really showed through.
Next Thursday, September
22 is the last beginners' race
at Hu11y Gully this season.
Since racing starts at 7 p.m.
and the days 'are getting
shorter, more of the program
has to be run as it gets darker.
In the interests of safety,
organizers have decided not
to let the series run past this
Thursday.
September 15 results: Mini
Digger class: Benji Crane,
Goderich. Enduro class:
Chris Sakusov, Wingham;
Brian Olson, Dungannon and
Stephen Caulfield, Stratford.
ATV class: John Rumney,
Strathroy; Kris Boyd, Thed-
ford and Mike Rummev,
Strathroy.

Saints and Parkhill Diggers
indicated they would be icing
teams.
Although no official corn -
mit ment was received it's
expected the defending cham-
pion Exeter Mohawks and the
strong Hensall Sherwoods will
be back for another year.
During the 1982-83 season
an interlocking schedule of
games was played with teams
from the North Oxford
league. Play between the two
leagues is being discontinued
for the coming season.
A new referee's association
has been formed with veteran
whistle tooter Carl Nickles
handling the chore of referee -
in -chief. It is expected a total
of 14 referees will be
available.
The next league meeting is
scheduled for Monday,
September 26 at 7:30 sharp.

Gymnasts
to register

Parents are reminded that
gymnastics registration takes
place tonight, Wednesday
September 21 from 7:00-9:00
p.m. at the Rec Centre.
Registration fees for the
season are E25 per youngster,
E40 for two in a family and 650
for three in a family.
Gymnastics will start
Saturday October 1 at the
high school old gym and runs
for 20 weeks. Gymnastics is
for youngsters five and over
and instruction will be offered
in balance beam, floor exer-
cise and the uneven bars. No
trampoline will be offered this
season.
All girls should take note
that ringette registration will
be held Saturday September
25 at the fair. Just look for the
Exeter Minor Hockey booth
and ringette will be close by.
Ringette is a team ice sport
for girls similar to hockey
with no body contact.
Registration fee for this
season is 650.
Fall programs are soon go-
ing to be in full swing, so far
cake decorating and morning
dance -fit have had full
registraton. The following
programs and openings still
exist for this fall.
Ballet, tap and jazz for five
and six year olds - full, seven,
eight year olds - one space
open. All other age categories
still have room.
Photography - need at least
five more to go ahead;
ballroom dancing - we need
another couple to join in;
needlepoint, crewel,
crocheting and macrame -
lots of space yet; night-time
dance -fit - a few spaces left in
both classes.
Volleyball and badminton
still have rooin for people to
sign up. To register for any
fall programs, call the Rec
Centre at 235-2833.
Tykes lose
first final
The Exeter Tykes dropped
the first game of the W.O.A.A.
baseball final with Listowel
18-12, at home, Saturday.
After Listowel scored twice
in the top of the second to
open the scoring, the locals
tied it on a walk to Brett
Borden, singles by Todd
McCann and Marlen Tinney
and a groundout by Mark
Burton.
Listowel opened up a 17-2
lead going into the bottom of
the fifth inning before the Ex-
eter squad scored again.
Rob McLelland opened the
ining with a triple and scored
on a single by Burton who also
came in on a groundout by
Alan Blommaert.
In the sixth the rally con-
tinued with walks to David
Dalrymple and Glenn Quinn,
singles by Scott Bishop, Mark
Russell and Burton and a dou-
ble by Tinned
Exeter scored two wore
runs in the seventh and left
the bases loaded as their ral-
ly came up short.
Tinney started the game on
the mound and pitched Circe
strong innings before running
into trouble in the fourth.
Blommaert relieved and after
suffering through a shakey
fifth inning, settled down and
shut Listowel down in the
sixth and Seventh.
