With summer over and the
kids back at school thoughts
turn to fair time. With the
theme of the fair being
"Focus on Wheat" the Ladies
Division has many specials
and demonstrations on wheat.
Also, South Huron Hospital is
celebrating its 30th Anniver-
sary and we are saluting
them for their service to the
community.
•
Wheat is featured in the
Flow"r Arranging, Weaving,
Breadmaking and the In-
stitute displays. The Huron
County Wheat Board will
have a display in the foyer to
inform the public on all
aspects of wheat. Saturday, in
the auditorium, you can see a
demonstration on wheat
weaving as well as bread
making. This starts with the
kernel and lets you sample
the finished product. We are
sure you will glean some
knowledge from these ex-
hibits and demonstrations.
South Huron Hospital has
served the community for 30
years. The Organizational
Displays, Flower Department
and Fine Arts and Crafts as
well as our special decorated
layer cake pays tribute to
them.
Calligraphy is a new section
this year and we are hoping a
popular one for Arts and
Crafts.
It is time to enter those
quilts and make a try for the
Canada Packers prize. We
have a lot of beautiful quitters
in the area so finish that bin-
ding and bring them in to the
fair.
We are looking for entrants
in the Colour Photographic
competition. The rules are on
page 87 in the Fair Book so tet
us see some special snaps.
4-11 has a new look this
year. The homemaking Clubs
will besetting up their ex-
hibits on "More Outdoor Liv-
ing" and "Ontario Heritage".
The Agricultural Clubs will
have a display competition
featuring "Focus on Wheat."
Leaders, inspire your group
to take time and enter as the
prize money is worth it.
Sorority play
Trivial game
XI Gamma Nu Sorority
chapter started off their year
on August 30. The "Beginning
Day" meeting was held at the
home of president, Mary Jane
MacDougall.
Upcoming socipl and
cultural events and program
outlines for the year were
presented. The members
divided into teams and en-
joyed a game of Trivial Pur-
suit. Lunch was served by the
social committee.
Hostess for the September
13 meeting was Barb Ballan-
tyne. Chapter Traditions and
Bylaws were amended and
approved. Following a short
business meeting, an in-
teresting program entitled
"Women's Concerns" was
presented by Lynda Deelstra
and Joanne Bowen.
They demonstrated the
many concerns of • women
through the years by playing
a va 'iety of musical recor-
dings. A quiz brought to
memory many important
women both past and preseirt.
A lovely lunch was provided
by our hostess and co -hostess
Anne Baynham.
Al the supper table:
"Somehow a hot dog doesn't.
taste the same without a ball
game in front of it."

Of course our Golden Age
Department is in again. Some
of these people have probably
been exhibitors for many
years. We appreciate their
entries as they do fine work.
On Saturday afternoon at
2:00 and 3:30 p.m. there will
be a Fashion Show in the
auditorium by Perry
Originals. Before the Perrys
opened their business they
were exhibitors at our fair
and displayed some beautiful
work. We are sure you will en-
joy their show and maybe get
some ideas for Christmas
gifts.
I have mentioned only a few
highlights of our fair. Come
on out and see for yourself the
top quality work that our fair
is famous for. We are always
looking for new exhibitors so
why not give it a try or if you
would be interested in becom-
ing a member of our Ladies
Division just talk to one of our
workers. We will be glad to
hear from you.
Without the donations from
the community and surroun-
ding area wewouldnot be able
to have such an extensive
prize list. Many thanks from
the Ladies Division to you.
My own thanks to the peo-
ple I work with in the Society
and especially to the ladies
behind the scenes who help
make Exeter Fair a success.
Your patience and understan-
ding has been appreciated.
In '83, I'm going to bet that
you will have the best time
yet."
