Area rec fastball league season winding up
Another, exciting season of
recreation fastball will be
coming to a close in the next
few weeks.
The 15 team Exeter and
district league has had a busy
summer playing a 210 game
schedule.
In addition Exeter teams
have participated in tour-
naments in Seaforth, Clinton,
Exeter, Exeter Blue Crew
tournament and the final
tournament of the circuit in
Zurich.
The Jet Boys were A run-
ners up in Clinton. The
Gasohols the A champs of the
Lucan tournament while the
Blue Crew tood the Lucan B.
tiensall Legion were B
champs in Exeter while the
Blue Crew were A finalists
losing to Seaforth Creamery.
The Derby Dips Shakers
won the Blue Crew tourna-
ment "A" while Wallov-
Hearn were A runners up.
The B was won by Goderich
French Cleaners.
The teams fared well in all
competition from other towns
and the league is proud of its
accomplishments.
The year was challenging
from an organizational stand-
point as in this expansion year
going from 12 to 15 teams.
Also a new umpires associa-
tion, Usborne Umpire
Association took over the
duties behind the plate.
A few minor schedule pro-
blems arose as well as some
minor financial problems in-
volving two of the teams. The
league's budget is somewhere
over seven thousand dollars.
The situation has a happy
ending as all .commitments
have been made. This league
has brought over $3000 in
revenues into the community
as the result of tournaments,

Employment
survey on
A team of employment
specialists from the Workers'
Compensation Board is con-
ducting a job -search cam-
paign among area • employ-
ers next week.
Finding jobs for
rehabilitated injured workers
is an on-going pursuit with
us" says Ron Moir, the
Board's employment
specialist for the area. "Rut
next week we're going all out
when I'm being joined by
several colleagues. We're go-
ing to concentrate on finding
jobs for more than 175 job -
ready local men and women."
Richard Murzin of the com-
munications division, told the
T -A that most of the effort by
the employment specialists
will he concentrated in the
London -Woodstock -St.
Thomas area. however, two
will be canvassing in the
Goderich-Clinton-Exeter-
'mean area on September 15
and 16.
Employers who will be
visited have already received
letters from the Workers'
Compensation Board announ-
cing their visit.
in addition to the $7000 spent
on baseballs, diamond and
facility rentals and umpire
fees.
While some rec fastball
leagues are having difficulties
losing teams to slow pitch the
future of the Exeter league is
promising. It is anticipated at
least 13 teams will be back or
1984-85. Any teams entering
next year's league will be re-
quired to post their fees and
a performance bond before
they will be included in the
schedule. From a small
beginning this rec league has
become a rather Targe piece
of business.
September 12 six exciting
fastball games are on deck at
the Exeter diamonds. Begin-
ning at 7 p.m. Walloy-Hearn
vs the Chiefs, the Shakers vs
Pfaff, Hensall vs Chiselhurst,
Gasohols vs Exeterinn, and
the Blue Crew vs Usborne.
This round will then con-
tinue Wednesday, September
14 and Monday, September 19
with the championship
September 21.
The league would like to
thank those who support our
tournaments and our teams
throughout the year and we
look forward to seeing our
fans during the exciting
playoff final.
