Katimavik is returning
For the second consecutive
year, 12 young people will ar-
rive in Exeter to participate
in a Katimavik project spon-
sored by three community
groups.
The youths, who arrive
September 14, will be working
as volunteers for the South
Huron Recreation Centre, the
Ausable-Bayfield Conserva-
tion Authority and the South
Huron and District Associa-
tion for the Mentally
Handicapped.
Their home for the next
three months will be at 313
Carling St., after which they
will move on to another
Katimavik project in St.
Honore, Quebec. Another
group which will be working
in North Vancouver, B.C.,
whill then come to Exeter.
The group leader is Douglas
Spek, a Katimavik employee,

don, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Richardson, Grand Bend.
The wedding will take place Saturday, October 1, 1983
at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Lucan.
TO MARRY - Penny Hodgins and Darrell McComb are
pleased to announce their forthcoming marriage on
Saturday, September 24, 1983. Proud parents are Larry
and Gloria Hodgins and Don and Aleda McComb all of
Lucan. The wedding will take place at Holy Trinity
Anglican Church, Lucan, Ontario.

As well as working a
regular work week, an em-
phasis will be placed on
"Learning to Work". They
will also experience living
together as a group and learn
to set up and maintain a
house. They will try to live a
conserver lifestyle and to
learn their second language.
They will also be getting to
know the local community. To
help in achieving this objec-
tive they are asking people in
the community to invite a
Katimavikar to live and work
with them for two weeks
durng one or more of . the
three month rotations.

"Katimivik", an Inuit word
meaning "Meeting Place" is
the name of a national
volunteer youth program
funded by the secretary of
state department. The objec-
tives of Katimavik are:
To serve Canadian com-
munities through projects
developed locally, in co-
operation with which under
normal circumstances would
not have been undertaken for
lack of funds.
To aid in the personal
development of the young
people participating in the
program by providing oppor-
tunities to experience a sim-
ple, physically challenging
lifestyle.
To encourage environmen-
tal awareness by practising a
conserver lifestyle and learn-
ing first hand about ap-
propriate technology.
To provide participants the
opportunities for a greater
understanding of the country
through travel, learning their
second language, billeting
with local fain:lies and par-
ticipating in community'
activities.

After Don retired from the
navy they moved to Wingham
where Dorothy became ad-
ministration manager in the
Bank of Montreal in Lucknow
and as of September has been
promoted to bank manager of
the Lucknow branch.
