OBA action
The Exeter Co -Op Juniors,
defending Ontario junior "D"
champions will be competing
this weekend in the OBA
Junior "C" playoffs in
Kingsville.
The juniors under the
guidance of Joe Fulop, Bruce
Shaw and Brad Gregus will
meet the host Kingsville team
in an opening game Friday
night.
If the Exeter club wins the
• first •game they will meet
either Chatham or St.
Thomas in the second round.
If losers Friday night they
Will meet either Wheatley or
Orillia Saturday.
Juvenile girls
are eliminated
The Exeter girls juvenile
softball team was eliminated
two games to one by Lieury in
the first round of playoffs.
Lieury won the first game
16-7 with Exeter bouncing
hack to win the second contest
by a score of 10-4 and Lieury
capturing the deciding game
by a lopsided 14-1 score

Royals playoff
at home, Thursday
Tuesday the Exeter Royals
travelled to Lieury and came
home with a 14-4 win to com-
plete their' Southwestern
Fastball league season with a
record of 17 wins and 13
losses. •
They opened up the playoffs
last night in Lieury against
West Corners while the se-
cond game will go in Exeter
Thursday at 9:00 p.m.
The Royals opened. the
scoring in the first as Barry
Baynham tripled and scored.
They went up 5-0 in the se-
cond, Al Lovell led off with a
triple, John Gilespie reached
on an error, Brad Marsden
singled, Barry Baynham
walked and Mike Desjardine
and Paul McKnight singled.
Lieury scored a run in the
third and the Royals went up
9-1 in the fifth as Gary Skin-
ner doubled, Al Lovell and
Phil Turner singled, Dan
Heywood doubled and Barry
Baynham singled.
Lieury scored one in the
fifth but the Royals came
back with five runs in the
sixth.
Gary Skinner led oft -with a
single, Al Lovell walked,
Dave Prout, Rob Snell, Barry
• Baynham and Mike Desjar-
dine all singled.

Saturday, ffully Gully mov-
ed their house .league racing
from their track to the
Maitland Valley Motocross
Track and added a new dimen-
sion to racing for many of the
participants.
The long. difficult track
slowed things down a little,
but didn't dampen any of the
enthusiasm of the riders.

Astros are meeting, Poplar
Hill takes on Ilderton and
Bryanston meets Nairn. AH

Drillers tie
with Lucan
With only 10 players in the
lineup the Exeter Drillers
battled Lucan to a 3-:3 tie in
Ausable league soccer play,
Sunday.
The Drillers next game is
Sunday September 11 at 4
p.m. when they meet Grand
Bend at the Canners- field.
in Sunday's game Lucan
opened the scoring after 20
minutes of play, but, the
Drillers defence of Wayne
Smith. Joe Martens and Sean
O'Rourke held the opposition
scoreless for the balance of
the first half.
Minutes into the second
half. Andrew Winters scored
on a pass from Jeff Weersink.
Lucan carne hack with two
goals and led 3-1 with only 10
minutes left in the game.
In the last to minutes, An-
drew Winters converted a
pass from Robert Weersink
and completed a hat trick per-
formance on a penalty shoe

Tykes advance in WOAA
The Exeter Tykes basket-
ball team took their south
division WOAA playoffs with
back to back victories over
Seaforth on the weekend, to
win the best of three series.
Saturday at home. ilarlen
Tinney raced home with the
winning run on a dropped
third strike to give the locals
a 16-15 eigth inning win.
Mark Burton pitched five
strong innings before giving
way to Alan Blommaert in the
sixth. Haden 'Pinney relieved
in the eigth.
.larnie Bedard was the

leader at the plate as he drove
in four runs with two home
runs while Scott Bishop
scored three -times.
Sunday in Seaforth, Tinney
and Bedard again were the
catalysts in a 30-10 victory.
Tinney took the complete
game win striking out 17
while walking five and -allow-
ing only three hits.
Ile also chipped in with four
hits and five RBi's while
Bedard knocked in seven runs
with four hits including a
grand -slam home run.
