Trish Sharen, Pam Bregman, Vicki Schroeder, Laurie Pepper, Joanne McBride, Alice Dietrich, Lori Hayter and Lisa Broderick will be in- troduced in the arena at 1 p.m. by Zurich Reeve Don Van Patter. The crowning of the queen is planned for 3 p.m., but may be slightly delayed, as the three judges will be personally interview- ing each entrant before mak- ing their decision. After the winner has been crowned by Van Patter, the 1983 Zurich Bean Festival Queen and the two -runners-up will be presented on the main street stage. Local merchants have donated a number of ap- propriate prizes, and the Queen will also take home a slow cooker (guaranteed to bring out the best in beans) from the Ontario Bean Marketing Board. Registra- tion 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Time flew after that and we. the delegates. were never left with a dull moment. Perhaps those people who were parents of a delegate will soots understand the exhausted yet enthusiastic juveniles which carne home from the conference. After a few opening exer- cises were used, we soon got to know one another and where we carne from etc. "Expanding your comfort zone," the conference theme, was soon defined. In other words. the ma- jority would rather die than public speak Part of our comfort zone should contain things that fear has caused us to never do. If we can use these to ac- complish something we will succeed. The example of }tillers desire and dreams of conquering the world were us- ed. Ile certainly had the first four O's but he didn't have Dimension and was unable to put things into perspective. One of- the conferences highlights was a speech from Father Nelligan who so modestly declared "lf I'm ene of your highlights it's going to be a tough road to hoe for the rest of this conference." Other speakers included Mrs. Duffy of the Dale Carnegie association and the woman who married a dairy farmer. Both of them told us the importance of our inward and outward selves. We discussed the issues that are important to us as young adults such as dating. but also the qualities of a good 4-11er and ideas to take hack ' to our home club. Let's not forget the even- ings ictivilies. We would square dance. rock and roll. and try our hardest to break curfew. I'm sure that shy article will not do justice to the con- ference and all that went into it. My thanks and I'm sure I say this for all the delegates. to our speakers and Bob. Alex, Marg. Shirley, Knell. and the staff, and all those who helped shake this year's conference ;i big success.
