Exeter Big "0" bantams
baseball team opened their
best of three playoff series
with Seaforth at home, Fri-
day night.
The results are yet to be
determined as theame was
suspended in the bottom of
the seventh due to darkness.
Homuth best
at Ironwood
men's night
Stu Homuth with a 39
recorded the low gross score
in the A flight in Tuesday's
-regular men's night golf ac-
tion at the Ironwood course.
The net winner -with a 33 was
Mike Cushman.
In B flight, Gabby Mol's 40
won the low gross prize and
Bob Forrest had low net at 39.
The C flight low gross best
score was Chris Relouw with
a 43 and Bill Steele won low
net with a 39.
Bill Carson won the D flight
low gross at 52 and Steve
Kerslake won low net with a
36. Larry Wein was closest to
the pin.

Sunday night in Seaforth
they had with some lively
bats in the fourth and fifth to
come from behind a 3-0 deficit
to take a 10-3 lead.
Darryl McCann started the
rally in the. fourth leading off
with a single. Tim Moore
followed with a double to
score Darryl. Moore crossed
the plate on Scott Miller's
double and Sean Whiteford
drove Miller home.
Dave Russell's single
scored Whiteford before the
side was retired.
Darryl McCann got things
started again in the fifth when
he singled. Moore singled and
McCann was called out when
Miller got on base in a
fielder's choice.
Sean Whiteford's double
scored Moore. Miller scored
as Russell laid a perfect bunt
duwn the first baseline on the'
suicide squeeze play.
Dan Rooth's single scored
Whiteford and Steve Ander-
son singled to score Russell.
Jeff Da'.rynple's single
scored Rooth at,d Anderson
scored on McCann's second
hit of the inning before the
side retired.
Other hits in the game were
all singles from the bats of
Bryan Quinn, Whiteford and
Russell. The team had a total
of 16 hits with Whiteford and
Russell both having a perfect
night at bat.
Seaforth scored one run in
each of the fifth and seventh
to bring the final tally to 10-5.
Scott Miller recorded the
win and Steve Anderson gets
the save.
The second game was in
Seaforth, Tuesday night.

Racing for
beginners
Beginning Thursday even-
ing, September Ist, at 8:00
p.m., and continuing every
Thursday through the season,
Hully Gully hosts a special
king of racing. Racing design-
ed specifically for beginners.
Racers must* at least five
years old and can't be over 70
years of age. There are
classes for mini -bikes, dirt
bikes, and All -Terrain
vehicles. both three and four
wheel.
The races will be conducted
on a safe, well -organized
track that's challenging,' yet
not quite as demanding as
traditional pully •Gully rac-
ing Track preparation is kept
to an absolute minimum in
order to keep entry fees down
to a low $2 per class. and
there will be prizes for first,
second and third place in each
class.

Driliers win B in six•aside
In a six -a -side Soccer tour-
nament hi Nairn the last two
weeks in which eight teams
played the Exeter Drillers
came home with the "B"
trophy.
Last week the Drillers lost
their first game against Nairn
6-1 to put them into the "B"
division. Allan Gaiser scored
the only goal for the Drillers.
Tykes out
The Exeter Tykes bowed
out of the OBA playoff
with a pair of last inning
losses to Kincardine.
In Dashwood Saturday the
locals took a 9-7 lead into the
final inning but came out on
the short end of a 12-9 score.
Harlen Tinney and Alan
Blommaert shared the mound
duties.
Offensively Todd McCann,
Scott Bishop and Justin Char-
rette accounted for seven
runs scored while David
Dalrymple and Harlen Tin-
ney chipped in with RBI
doubles. Alan Blommaert
picked up two singles and
Mark Russell reached base
three times.
Sunday in Kincardine, Ex-
eter again went into the
seventh with a strong come
from behind 13-11 Lead only to
lose on a two out two run
single.
Tinney and Blommaert
again turned in strong perfor-
mances with help from Mark
Burton and Jim Ahrens.
David Dalrymple paced the
offence with three RBI's on a
double and two singles.
Scott Bishop, Mark Burton
and Haden Tinney scored two
runs each while Todd
McCann, Justin Charrette,
Mark Russell and Alan Blom-
maert pitched in with singles.
Exeter now meets the win-
ner of the Clinton-Seaforth
series in the second round of
1vOAA playoffs.

tions considering they had on-

More than 30 golfers par-
ticipated in a round of golf
and a pot luck supper on guest
night at the Ironwood ladies
Club.
Marg Miller won the lucky
prize and Helen Burton was
the door prize winner.
Dorothy. Kipfer recorded
the lowest score, Nancy Char-
rette required the least
number' of putts. ifazel
Beaver won the hidden hole
score and Lynne Tinney was
the most honest golfer.
In the second game against
the Exeter Centennials, the
Drillers won 6-3. Andrew
Winters scored three goals,
Steve Gould scored two goals
and Allan Gaiser notched one.
This week the Drillers
played Exeter Centennials
No. 2 in the first game and
won 6-0. Andrew Winters
scored two goals, Ernie Szako
Sr. footed 2 goals and Brian
Topp and Joe Martens each
•scored one goal.
Ernie Szako Jr. and Blayne
Epp earned the shutout bet-
ween them.
In the second game the
Drillers played Nairn and
won 5-3. Brian Topp scored
thr(.• goals and Andrew
Winters scored two goals.

August 2 the ladies of the
Exeter Golf and Country Club
played another game of Bingo

score of 12.

even with scores of 10.
The ladies are to be remind-
ed of a game of monkey golf
to be played next week follow-
ed by a dinner catered to by
Hazel Westcott.
ATOMS TiE •
The Exeter I and the Ex-
eter 111 atoms played a
scoreless tie in minor soccer
league play Monday night.
Due to some of the Exeter
111 atoms being away at
camp, Stephen Farquhar and
Brian Brand were moved up
from the squirts to fill in.
This gave the Drillers the "B"
trophy.
They then played Grand
Bend for the "A" trophy and
lost 3-1. Joe Martens shot the
only goal for the Drillers.
Wayne Smith and Sean
O'Rourke played superb
defence.
The Drillers next soccer
game is against the Centen-
nials August 21 at 2:00 al the
Canners field in Exeter.
