IN MEMORIAM —
LEWIS — In loving memory of a
dear brother-in-law and Uncle
Wilbert Lewis who died August 10.
1982.
His life was unselfish, for others

Not to receive, but only to give.
Helpful and willing so thoughtful

What treasured memories he left
behind.
Lovingly remembered by Car-
man, Verna and family. 32'
LEWIS — In loving memory of a
dear husband, Wilbert who pass
ed away one year ago, August 10,
1982. -
Put Your arms around him Lord.
Treat him with special care,
Make up for all he suffered,
And all that seems unfair,
Without farewell he fell asleep,
With only memories for me to
keep,
If he could have spoken before he
died,
These are the words he would
have replied.
"This life for me is truly passed,
i loved you all to the very last,
Weep not for me but courage
take,
And love each other for my sake.”
So dearly missed and never to
be forgotten by your wife Nola.32•

Summerfest in Crediton August
Can they pull it off? This is
thequestio inthemindsof the
residents of Crediton. The
longest village in Ontario is
about to embark on its own
venture and create an annual
Summerfest. The event will
be held each year, the third
weekend of August.
This year the wide variety
of activities will be held
August 19, 20 and 21.
It all started in the cold
dreary month of March when
a few individuals had the idea
that such an endeavour would
prove to be a feasible under-
taking for this small hamlet.
A meeting was called, an
organizationformed and
Crediton Summerfest '83 was
born.
Chairman, Bill Wilds is
president of the Crediton
Lions Club and a local
business man. A life long resi-
dent of Crediton Mr. Wilds
operates a small engine and
saw sharpening business
from the garage of his home.
He is a town trustee and along
with another town father, Jim
Finkbeiner, is representing
the interest of the police
village.
Secretary is Norm Eveland
who has a small refinishing
business on his own property
and is past president of the
Lions Club.
Treasurer for the operation
is Fred Bowers. An employee
of the Agricultural School in
Huron Park, Fred and his
wife Loraine operate a small
cleaning business.
Donations from the
Crediton and District Social
Club, Crediton Lions Club and
Crediton Volunteer Firemans
Association got the Sum-
merfest underway with the
necessary funds to purchase
buttons and a banner for the
main street.
To achieve total communi-
ty involvement, all organiza-
tions within the town are par-
ticipating in some way.
Friday evening, August 19
will open up the big tent to
reveal a talent show and
junior miss contest. Jim
Swann of CFPL, TV will be
master of ceremonies. Miss
Crediton Summerfest will be
crowned by former Exeter
Fall Fair Queen, Barb Ware-
ing. Barb is a life long resi-
dent of Crediton and daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Wein.
Following the talent contest
and awarding of prizes for the
poster contest, local musi-
cians will be entertaining
young and old.
Businesses in the area have
been generous in donating
cash and prizes for the junior
miss and talent contests.
Saturday morning the
Volunteer Firemans Associa-
tion takes over with a pan-
cake and sausage breakfast
from 8 until 11. This is a new
undertaking for the firemen
and hopefully no fire ex-
tinguishers will be needed.
At 10 a.m. the Crediton
Women's Institute and the
Crediton United Church
Women begin their combined
bake and craft sale. All bak-
ing and crafts are being
donated by members and in-
terested citizens.
Anyone wishing to make a
donation is asked to contact
the president of either
organization, Marie Fyden-
chuk or Ruth Eveland.
At 12:30 a grand parade will
wind its way down the 3.75
kilometre length of the
village. Parade marshal
Byron Clark has secured the
Dashwood Band, a majorette
group and the Shriners group.
Several other floats, vehicles,
bikes and trikes along with
the Exeter horse and Rider
Club are sure to delight young
and old.
The official opening for the
Summerfest will take place at
2 p.mfollowing the p- rade.
Jack Riddell and Murray Car-
diff will be on hand to pro-
nounce the Summerfest open.
Allan Walper, reeve of
Stephen Township will also be
one ofthoseofficiating at the
opening ceremonies.
From 1 until 4, the Crediton
Hall Board is putting on a
bingo. Any bingo lover will
adore the cute and cuddly
stuffed animals being offered
as prizes in special bingo
games.
At 2 p.m. the Exeter Horse
and Rider club under the
direction of Adriaan Brand
will be presenting a horse
show. The show will feature
local 4-H members as well as
-youth and amateur riders
from the area.
Various classes will be
judged for showmanship at
halter, equitation (the rider is
judged on horseback) and a
Western and English pleasure
class ( where the horse is
judged.) A trail course and
command class will also be
open for competitors.
Not all will be serious for it
seems, various fun games
will be undertaken by horse
and rider. A barrel race, pole
bending race as well as the
egg and spoon race and a
steady water race will be of
interest to spectators.
From 6 until 8, the Crediton
Parks Board will be having a
beef barbecueBarbecuedbeef
on a bun served along side
delicious corn on the cob and
salad will tempt the Sum-
merfest crowd into eating out
after enjoying the day on the
midway or other activity.
At 7 p.m. a chain saw com-
petition will be held on the
grounds with various prices in
different classes. Competitors
are asked to register with
Gord Brown at 238-2080 prior
to the competition.
Frotp 8 to 1, the Crediton
and District Social Club are
sponsoring a dance with
music by Beechwood.
Beechwood have been en-
joyed several times at the
club, which holds dances once
a month in the town hall, from
September until May.
Sunday will begin at 10 a.m.
with an interdenominational
church service. Everyope is
invited to bring their own pic-
nic supplies and a few grills
will be available for anyone
wishing to have a hotdog or
hamburg cooked for them by
'experienced' chefs.
In the afternoon, games for
the children will be hosted by
the Crediton youth group, The
Soul Survivors. The group
under the direction of Linda
Finkbeiner will be offering
entertainment for the
youngsters from 12 noon on.
Always a cool treat are the
firemen's water games and
these will be held at 2 in the
afternoon. The Crediton
Volunteer Firemen won first
place in the water competi-
tion in Ailsa Craig a few
weeks ago and plan on retain-
ing their victory.
During the festivities the
Huron Middlesex Cadet Corps
will be in attendance direc-
ting parking, selling tickets
and patrolling the grounds,
helping the general public in
any way possible. A cadet col-
our party will lead the parade
down the main street adding
to the pageantry of the event.
When speaking to the co-
ordinators of the flea market,
they assured the committee
there would be a good varie-
ty of booths with something of
interest for the whole family.
The flea market will run Fri-
day through Sunday.
