Another German
here next month
Reeve Bill Mickle and his
wife, Fran, were commended
Monday for the "tremen-
dous" amount of time they
spent in hosting German
visitor Christoph Langenhorst
during his stay here last
week.

Okay plan
for flowers
Exeter council have given
approval to a private citizen's
suggestion for adding more
flowers to MacNaughton
Park.
Mayor Bruce Shaw
reported Monday that local
florist Joanne Dinney had ap-
proached him with an idea to
add more. flower beds at no
expense to the town.
Her plan would result in
Local service clubs and other
organizations entering a com-
petition to see which one could
come up with the best flower
bed. She would provide a
prize to the winner.
The prize for the communi-
ty would be a proliferation of
flowers in the park.
The groups would be
responsible for the costs in-
volved and the upkeep of the
individual beds and Shaw
noted, if any defaulted on the
work, the site could be reseed-
ed to grass.
Councillor Bill Rose ques-
tioned the competitive aspect
of the suggestion, saying that
cooperation from all groups
could perhaps be solicited to
undertake a sizeable peren-
nial bed that would have more
lasting benefits and be Tess
costly to maintain once
established.
He said he had visited two
such perennial beds recently
and each included a floral
clock which he said would be
a real attraction for the park.
Council voted to have the
local florist proceed on her
plans but to maintain liaison
with council.

Fuller, in making the com-
mendation, also noted that the
work Mickle and Mayor
Bruce Shaw have done in an
attempt to attract German in-
dustries to the community
has been well above the call
of duty.
"Out of all of it, hopefully
we'll get some industry, ' she
said.
"Bill and Fran were very
generous," Shaw added in
agreeing with Fuller's com-
ments on the time given by
Mickle to the German visit.
For his part, Mickle paid
tribute to the town staff for
their efforts regarding the
visit, particularly Donna
Glanvillewhom he said"did a
super job."
The Reeve said he didn't
expect Langenhorst to make
any decision on corning to Ex-
eter for possibly a year.
He then announced that a
second German industrialist
plans to arrive in Exeter on
September 7.
He represents a firm which
employs about 70 people,
which Mickle said is large in
German terms.
