Exchange. with Quebec
Six Exeter and area
students have spent the last 10
days hosting six Quebec
students at their homes here
in Fluron.County. They are
part of an exchange program
taking place this summer bet-
ween Huron county elemen-
tary and secondary students
and their counterparts in
Quebec.
In all 30 students from
Huron were chosen to spend
10 days ( June 30 -July 11) in
Quebec and then host their
partners from July 15 -July 26
in an exchange program
which is promoted and
organized by SEVEC which
stands for Society for Educa-
tional Visits and Exchanges
in Canada. Local information
and applications were provid-
ed by French Co-ordinator.
Damian Solomon.
SEVEC is funded by the
Federal and Ontario govern-_
ments as well as by private
donations and participants'
fees. Each student who par-
ticipated paid a fee of $85 to
cover the cost of their
transportation either by air or
rail and other materials pro-
vided such as a t -shirt and
visor.
The six students from the

Dave Holtzmann fired a 37

the A flight in Tuesday's
men's night at Ironwood golf
club with special prizes
awarded. Paul Van Gerwen
won low net at 33.
In B flight, Al Taylor's 42
was low•gross and Brad Mur-
ray had the low net score of 32
while Brad Daters took low
gross of 37 and Brian Brooks
had tow net of 30 in flight C.
Ted Van Roestel recorded a
47 as low gross and Gus
Gregus at 30 was low net in D
flight. Brad Daters won the
longest drive prize and
Wayne Parsons was closes) to
the pin.
Exeter area who participated
were Andrea Pearce, Sarah
Patterson, Michele Aunger,
Drew Hasselback, Pauline
Regier and Brian Watson.
Sarah, Pauline and Drew
stayed in the Chicoutimi,
'I'adoussac arca while Andrea
was in Kingsey Falls and
Brian in Sorel.
The exchange has been suc-
cessful and enjoyable for both
sets of students and their
families as they participated
in different activities and got
to know what it's like to live
in a French or English milieu.
In talking to the students at
a barbecue last week at the
home of Bruce and Barb
llasselback. they indicated
they had been enjoying their
experience and were learning
new expressions. They also
indicated that they got along
better with their French than
they expected. Some of them
visited Quebec City and took
a boat trip on the Saguenay
River as well as getting to
know the area around where
they were staying. .
The Quebec students who
have suffered from the recent
humidity like the rest of us,
were enjoying their Stay and
their excursions to Niagara
Falls. CN tower, Science Cen-
tre, Canada's Wonderland.
London, Stratford. In addition
they have enjoyed swimming,
overnight tenting and movies
played on the video. Grand
Bend according to all was a
big hit with the Quebecois
students.
For all the students the im-
portant part of the exchange
was gradually getting to know
and understand someone
from a different ulture and
language background and to
improve their English or
French vocabulary in a plea-
sant atmosphere as they did
the ordinary thing, such as
.playing games, going uptown,
swimming etc.,' that normal
teenagers do whether. they
are Francophone or
Anglophone.

The exchange has also been
viewed in a positive way by
the parents who enjoyed the
exchange almost as much as
their children. Agnes Aunger
was one of the chaperones
who flew with the students to
Chicoutimi as did Sylvia Wat-
son who accompanied the
group to Sorel.
Barb Hasselback acted as a
telephone link to help the ex-
changes keep in touch and
help in other ways.
Thanks to all of these peo-
pie the students will have
pleasant memories of the
summer of '83.
