Unusual cookware makes classy gift
Buying wedding gifts
used to be a piece of cake.
All new brides needed the
basics, from linens to food
staples. Typically, a bride
went directly from her par-
ents' home to live with her
husband. She had no occa-
sion to stock up on house-
hold goods in between.
But today's bride has
often spent time living on
her own. Whether she had
her own apartment during
work or school or shared a
place with friends, she's
acquired many of the items
that once rnade logical wed-
ding gifts. What she wants
now is the icing on the cake
— gifts that are classy and
out of the ordinary.
Unusual kitchen gifts are
among the easiest and often
the most welcome ways to
indulge a bride or groom.
It's hard to buy a good set
of towels if you don't know
the color of a couple's bath-
room or silk sheets if no one
can remember the size of
their bed. But everyone
knows they have to eat, and
most couples choose cook-
ing over take-out, fast
foods or frozen dinners.
If you haven't shopped
for cookware in a while,
you may be surprised to
rind it can do more than just
heat an evening meal.
Cookware with "Silver -
Stone" premium nonstick
surface, for example,
cleans quickly and easily,
without scrubbing. And be-
cause oil and butter is not
necessary to keep food
from sticking to the cook-
ware's surface, caloric in-
take is also reduced.
Here are some gift ideas
with "SilverStone" that
can spice up a couple's
basic cookware collection.
If the newlyweds enjoy
experimenting with new
ways of cooking. treat them
to an electric wok. With
"SilverStone," they'll be
GIFT THE BRIDE AND GROOM WITH AN HEIRLOOM —
a stately grandfather clock personalized with their names on
a solid brass plate. The "Charleston" by Howard Miller is
cased in cherry and rare mahogany burls, with brass inlay,
24K gold-plated spandrels, glass sides to reveal its triple
chime cable -wound movement, and a mirrored back to
reflect its polished brass pendulum and weights. It's a gift for a
lifetime, and for generations to come;
Shower the bride with
in-home bridal registry
Wedding bells will ring
for more than 2.5 million
couples this year
and cash registers will
ring up the sales of 10's of
millions of engagement,
shower and wedding gifts
purchased by friends and
relatives. In fact, Ameri-
cans made such purchases
last year to the tune of near-
ly $14 billion, spending an
average of several hours
shopping for each gift.
One way to make shop-
ping for wedding -related
gifts a breeze is for the
bride-to-be to reo.ster her
choices. Commonly done
through the bridal registry
of a.retail store, there is
now an alternative that is
more personal, convenient
and entertaining. The new
twist is to register choices
— crystal, china, kitchen
products — with indepen-
dent consultants of home
party firms.
The process is very sim-
ple. Just review the prod-
ucts in the company's ca-
talog or actual samples and
then list desired items on a
special bridal registry form.
Best of all, this can be done
in the home, away from the
bustle of a crowded store,
and at a time that is conven-
ient for both the prospective
bride and the salesperson
who does not have dictated
"store" hours.
With this approach. a gill
can he purchased and given
in a party atmosphere. A
Princess House product
shower, for example, which
features handhlown and
handcut crystal stemware
and accessories, china and
silver, is often held in can-
dlelight with flowers and
typical party or wedding
foods.
There arc several for-
mats for selling home party
products to friends and rel-
atives of the bride-to-be.
Thc bride can either regis-
ter her selections before the
party or at the party. If the
bride registers prior to the
party, there are two ap-
proaches.
Al one, guests can order
registered products from a
catalog prior to the shower
in the comfort of their own
home. The sales consultant
places the order, wraps and
delivers all items to the
party site. The bride-to-be
then opens the gifts at the
party.
Or, the consultant can
demonstrate the bride's re-
gistered items to guests
who then order their gifts
directly at the party. The
gifts are delivered to the
brid^ to-be's home a week
or so after the party.
If the bride has not regis-
tered before the party, she
can make her selections at
the party. Guests may then
order their gifts at the party
or may phone their order to
the party hostess the fol-
lowing day.
As with any party, the
hostess is key to the suc-
cess of the (arty. She is the
person who invites the
guests, keeps close watch
of what is ordered and reg-
isters all orders on the
bride's list.
Many home party firms
offer clubs as easy and
affordable ways for the new
bride to finish out her prod-
uct needs. Many of these
same companies offer col-
lection plans as well as rea-
sonable replacement poli-
cies on their products.
Princess House has a spe-
cial program that allows the
bride to replace broken cry-
stal at half price.
Brides sec this new ap-
proach to bridal registry as
professional and innova-
tive, but most importantly,
helpful. Thc detailed regi-
stration list is given to the
bride following each party.
It provides excellent hack
up information when writ-
ing thank you notes.
The list is also given to
the hostess as a handy gift•
giving reminder for her and
her guests when anniversa-
ries, birthdays or other spe-
cial occasions of the couple
come around.
COOKING IS EASY and low in calories for newlyweds with
cookware coated with "SilverStone," the premium non-
stick surface. A taste of the orient is moments away —

able to cook meat, seafood
or vegetables in minutes,

if they both work and
need to cook several days
of meals at once — or if
they frequently entertain
large groups of people —
consider an I1 -inch fryer
that can cook big batches of
chicken.
What about a dutch oven
that roasts, braises and
fries for up to 12 people or a
jumbo fryer that can handle
pork chops l'orange for
eight'? Don't forget the
nonstick lasagna pans that
also serve as a dessert pan.
When a lig Sunday
brunch is your favorite
couple's idea of wedded
bliss, an electric griddle
with "SilverStone" is a
good choice for hot cakes
and sausages that sizzle.
Waffle makers with non-
stick surface can also pro-
duce sandwiches and even
giant Italian cookies called
pizzelles.
For those who consider
rainy weekends an excuse
for baking binges, gift wrap
cookie sheets, regular or
miniature cake pans, mini -
muffin pans, tart pans and
tube cake pans. When they
are coated with 'Silver -
Stone," there's no hard -to -
clean mess.
Do the bride and groom
like to go camping? Pots
with collapsible handles are
made for packing with
camp gear.
True gourmets will ap-
preciate heavy gauge alu-
minum cookware. And
anyone will realize the ben-
efits of utility, boning and
slicing knives with nonstick
blades. Easy cleanup
applies just as well to cut-
ting edges as it does to
cookware.
Give the newlyweds the
"ingredients" for a meal
with easy cleanup., and
they'll cook happily ever
after.
Beautiful bedroom -luxurious
and romantic hideaway for two
Every bride dreams of a
beautiful bedroom — lux-
urious, romantic, ajust-for-
two hideaway far from the
workaday world.
But don't leave your spe-
cial setting to chance. Start
your married life with top-
quality pillows and com-
forters, by listing these
items with the bridal regis-
try of your favorite depart-
ment store.
Most brides are first-time
pillow buyers, so some
helpful buying hints are a
must:
Although there are many
different sizes and tickings,
there are just three basic
pillow types: those filled
with down or feathers and

According to the Du
Pont Company, maker of
fibers for "Quallofil," the

label for information on fill-
ing, performance and care.
A pillow should be non -
allergenic, refluffable, and

able.
To select a pillow, make
the touch test. Touch the
pillow, hug it, scrunch it.
The pillow should be com-
fortable and buoyant. and
conform to your sleeping
style.

king-sized bed takes two

is 20 by 26 inches; a queen
size is 20 by 30 inches: a
