Add more staff
to playground crew
Exeter's summer
playground and sports pro-
gram has been so popular
with local youngsters that the
South Huron rec centre board
of management agreed this
week to add a staff member
to handle the larger than ex-
pected turnout.
Rec director Lynne Far-
quhar told the board, Thurs-
day. that there are presently
three leaders with the Bert
and Ernie program, but one
has to look after the wading
pool in the afternoon and that
leaves only two leaders to
handle the 55 to 60 children on
hand for the program.
"It's an awful lot for two
girls to handle," she explain-
ed in recommending the hir-
ing of a part-timestaff person
to look after the wading pcol.
She said the person would
work for four afternoons each
week at a stipend of 820. The
extra staff member would
work for as long as the enrol-
ment remains high, she
added.
Farquhar said she was very
impressed with the program
being provided by the
playground staff.
"Everything is going well"
at the swim pool as well, the
board learned, although the
rec director said it was too '
early to tell if the revenue
would reach the figure sec out
in this year's budget. Thirty-
five youngsters have joined
the swim team and they'll
host their first meet of the
season this Saturday in con-
nection with Heritage Days.
Finance committee
chairperson Carolyn Merner
reviewed the first six months
of operation of the board and
indicated She was "very
pleased" with revenue and
expenditures to date.
"The figures are well in line
with the budget," she
reported.
In his report, facilities
manager' Cam Stewardson
said that the recently staged
circus, which was sponsored
by the board, was a financial
success although was far
froin sold out for the two
performances.
The Kinsmen flea market
held in the new agricultural
building has been cancelled
for the balance of the year
due to poor attendance by
vendors and purchasers.
