BACKSWiNG TECHNIQUE
Many golfers stand up to the ball pick up
the golf club with both hands, os if it were
on axe. The backswing should be a slow
movement of the left arm away from the
ball as if the left arm and the shaft of. the
1 club were one piece. Practice this for bet
ter -results.

Express win streak hits four
The Exeter Express senior
baseball team won three
straight games this week in
Great Lakes league play to
run their undefeated streak to
four games.
Tuesday night, the Express
downed the Clinton Colts 12-8,
Thursday they edged the Ex-
eter juniors 7-6 and Sunday it
was a 13-6 victory over
Strathroy.
The Express were back in
action last night Tuesday
against the Exeter juniors
and will be at home to the
Clinton Colts at Exeter Com-
munity Park Sunday after-
noon at 1:30 p.m.
Two veterans of the Exeter
baseball scene have been
recruited by the Express and
both were instrumental in this
week's victories.
Right-handed pitcher Jim
Pfaff pitched five and one-
third innings in the win over
Clinton and was two -for -two
at the plate and Scott Burton
also returned and collected
two hits and the same number
of runs batted in as the Ex-
press edged the juniors.
In Tuesday's win over Clin-
ton, Pfaff after giving up five
runs in the second inning
settled down and pitched well
until one was out in the sixth
and final inning when he
needed relief help from Dave
Hunt to preserve the win.
The Express scored single
runs in each of the second and
third innings and wrapped up
the decision with four runs in
the fourth frame and a half
dozen markers in the fifth.
In the second Randy Kraul
singled and scored as Ken
Pinder walked, Scott Bu ton
was safe on a fielder's ch ice
and Jim Pfaff crack a
single.
The third inning score came
as the result of a Kevin Hern
double, Dave Bogart single
and Randy Kraul's sacrifice
fly to left.

Horse, pony
club meets
By Carolyn Pritchard
The third meeting of the
Exeter horse and pony club
was held June 20. It was•at
Adrianne Brand's. The
meeting began with the 4-H
pledge which was done by
our vice-president Heather
Browning. The roll call was
taken and the minutes of the
last meeting were read.
The club discussed old and
nein business. Some of the old
business was the Regional
Judging competition, the gate
- sign competition and also the
4-H demonstration
competition.
We also discussed the turn
out to our fun show and how
well it went. The new business
was that the Zurich horse club
is holding a show.
We discussed the idea of a
ride-a-thon which will consist
of a 15 mile ride and the
members will be giving 50
percent of the profit to the
club and E0 percent to .an
organization called
C.H.A.P.P.A. which means
the Canadian Horse and Pony
Protection Association.
The members also decided
to have another show July 6,
which will be held at Mr.
Brand's at 1:00 p:m.
M
r. Brand mentioned to
members that we were to ride
in the Crediton Summerfest
parade which will be on
• August 20 at 12:30. The Sum-
merfest runs for the weekend
of August 19, 20 and 21.
After the business was com-
pleted the lesson was started.
Our lesson this meeting was
training your horse. We read
over the booklets and talked
to the members who attended
the showmanship clinic in
Seaforth on June 18.
These members were
Marie DeBruyn and Carolyn
Pritchard. We also discussed
•the different things you
should do to prepare your
`. horse to show.
After this was completed,
' we were assigned homework
which consists of reading over
the booklet Western and
English riding.
r i " The next meeting lesson will
be determining the age of the
horse by its teeth. The next
meeting will be July 11 at
Dean Hayter's home in Cen-
tralia at 7:30. Then the
meeting was officially closed
by the vice president and
refreshments were served by
Cam Darling.
