Jr. D Irish back on track
after bombing Belmont
LUCAN -- It took them' a
period or two but the
Lucan Jr. D Irish found
their winning form by
blasting the Belmont
Bombers 8-2 at home last
week.
Lucan scored first and
often to erase Dec. 15's 4-1
loss to Port Stanley.
Matt Thompson scored
Lucan's first goal (and his
first of a hat -trick) with
7:11 left in the first period
from Ryan Keating and
Chad Lambourn.
Mark VanViiet made it 2-
,,, 0 by scoring with 19 sec-
onds left in the period from
Andrew Moriarity and
Jason Dunbar.
A pair of shorthanded
goals in the second period
insured the Irish a two goal
lead going into the third
period.
Matt Thompson scored
his second of the night at
12:05 while shorthanded.
It was an unassisted goal.
Belmont scored two
quick goals within 1:09, the
first on the powerplay, to
make it 3-2.
Dunbar scored Lucan's
second shorthanded mark-
er of the game at 17:18
from Moriarity and Darryl
Parsons to make it 4-2.
The third period saw the
Green Machine fire it up
with fourunanswered
goals. ,
Moriarity started the
attack by scoring 2:20 into
the final frame from
Dunbar and VanVliet. Then
Matt Thompson secured
the hat -trick at 7:34 from
Lambourn and Keating.
The Irish finished the
game with two powerplay
goals: the first by Mike
Burns from Keating and
Jason Amey at 12:01 and
the second by Parson from
Adam Thompson and Matt
Thompson.
The Irish blasted
Belmont goaltender Jeff
Lucarino all night.
Lucarino ended up with 46
stops on top of the goals
scored against him.
Irish goalie Jon Wickens
was more fortunate
between the pipes and had
to make 16 saves.
The Bombers had their
chance at revenge in Lucan
Monday night but the Irish
foiled them by 'winning 4-3
in overtime. , -
Lucan's Ben Dobbie
opened the scoring at
12:23 of th�.first period
with a powerpy goal with
assists by Parsons and
Amey.
Belmont evened the score
with 2:07 left in the period
and then scored the only
goal of the second period
to take a 2-1 lead into the
third.
The Bombers went up 3-
1 while shorthanded only
55 seconds into the third
period.
Belmont held the two -
goal lead till Amey scored
with 5:11 left in the period.
Greg Henderson scored the
tying goal with 1:17 left in
the game.
Adam Wagner 'proved to
be the hero in overtime for
the Irish by scoring the
winning goal 1:55 into the
extra frame from Matt
Thompson.
Belmont goaltender Ben
yormak proved his mettle
by making 35 saves includ-
ing 16 in the third . period.
Lucan's Marc Williams
played the first two periods
and made 11 saves.
Wickens replaced Williams
for the third period and
overtime and turned away
six shots.
With the two wins last
week, Lucan improves its
Morenz Division leading
record to 19-7-1 and 39
points, 10 pointsahead of
the idle second place
Exeter Hawks.
The Irish host Parkhill
tonight (Dec. 29) at 8:15
p.m. All children get in free
and for each puck they
bring with them they get a
chance at winning prizes
like hockey sweaters, sticks
and even a basketball.
