As part of its prepara- tion for the new year, which has raised fears of computer break- downs, the Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership set up a team at each of its eight hospitals to ensure there will be no disruption of service March 3, 1999 sir The CEO of the Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership says that the South Huron Hospital may experience the same problems keeping its ER doors open as it did last summer. The hospital was forced to close .the ER again after no doctors could be found to work the shift. er. Exeter Council has given Canadian Tire the green light to build its new store on the north.p side of Thames Road. The 30,000 sq. ft. store. has an additional 600 sq ft. garden centre and will have three times,the retail space of the cur- rent store. After suffering a seizure, a 38 year old man, despite the best efforts of his wife and daughter, plowed his car into a garage. His wife and daughter managed to steer the car off the road, missing many obstacles before stopping in a garage, No one was hurt severely. The suspension was caused by bad stu- dent behaviour but because it has improved activities can be continued. w The Exeter soccer club was told by the Exeter Council that they would get $5,000 for the new lights at the soccer field. The club has so far raised $30,600 of the total project cost. March 31, 1999 • The South Huron District Hospital emer- gency room was forced to closed again thislime for half a day. The closure has happened many times before due to lack of doctors to work the shifts. s: The Stephen township council voted down a proposal to expand the Stephen Township arena with a narrow vote of 3-2. Arena manager Rob Funston said that work is heeded but there con- cerns about public support and costs. ▪ A public meeting about the future of Dashwood was held and was well attended and emotional. This meeting was held to give the public a chance to speak out about their own future. No decisions were made. when the clock strikes midnight on Jan. 1, 0000. The boilers will now run on a combination of oil and gas. The phone System also had to be updated in September. The hospital held staff education sessions to prepare staff members for any equipment breakdowns and contin- gency plans. He said the 'hospital's Y2K work was done. by October. While he couldn't say exactly how much the hospital had to spend to become Y2K compliant, a new $87,000' generator had to be bought. He added the Ministry of Health gave the hospital grants of .more than $167,0.00 to deal with the prob- lem. The hospital will 'be running with a normal staff on New Year's Eve, but there will be extra staff on call, Southgate said. The hospital will also link With hospitals in Goderich and Clinton to actas a command cen- tre and report to the Ministry of Health on any problems.
