Advocate 31 Community Hensall Scouting and, Guiding organizations, Queensway Nursing and Retirement Home, Hensall fire department and Hensall residents teamed up to collect more than 20 boxes of food for the Exeter branch of the Huron County Christmas Bureau Dec. 8. (photo/Kate Monk) Queensway holds ers higiatA - The Christmas Season started early at Queensway as the staff Christmas dinner was held in the new dining area on Nov. 26. Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Richard Erb. Grand Cove Singers provided a program of carols and other favorite Christmas songs Dec. 1. Friendship Friday on December 3 found the Retirement Home lounge full as Clare Masse, Andy Rau and Lois Hodgins gave a performance. The annual family Christmas dinner was held Dec. 5. Bill Gibson and Joyce Pepper provided din- ner music and the volunteer Auxiliary members and stats worked to ensure everyone had a deli- cious meal and a good time. Fresh flowers graced every table and placecards were produced by Carolyn Lenting. Dec. 7 the Christian Reformed Singers gave the Christmas Story in song and readings. Irene Zwart sang a solo. Queensway took part in the Community Food Drive with The Hensall Fire Department, Girl Guides, Brownies, Scouts, Beavers and other ser- vice groups. Following the Food Drive everyone came back to Queensway for refreshments. The Exeter Christmas Bureau what had been gathered on their behalf. Lorne McKenzie played piano and sang for resi- dents on Thursday afternoon. Coming events Dec. 17 - Friendship Friday, 7 p.m. Harvey Smith. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the Third Sunday in Advent church service on Sunday morning at Thames Road. Robin McKnight lit the Advent candle. Rev. Carter told the children a story entitled "Sharing Our Gifts". The choir sang two anthems accompanied by organist Marilyn Vandenbussche. The scriptures were read by Don Bray. Rev. Carter entitled her sermon "A Carol For Christmas Spirit". Lorne and Pat Ballantyne received the offering and were the greeters. Life and work of the congregation There will be confir- mation classes in the new year ; fpriGrades 8 and, up. Anyone inter- ested= may contact Rev. Carter, Ann Kernick, Janet Coward or Karen Etherington. There will be a carol sing on Christmas eve. Please place your requests on the collec- tion plate during the next three Sundays. December schedule Dec. 12: Third Sunday of Advent at Thames Road; Dec. 19: Fourth Sunday of Advent at Elimville, "Right Side up Christmas" with Communion; Dec. 24: Christmas Eve Carols and Candle Service,- 7:30 p.m. at Thames Road; Dec. 26: Service of Meditation and Reflection at Elimville. The Messengers will meet December 16 at Elimville from 7 to 8 p.m. Bring a loonie. The Youth Group will get together at Thames Road from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a toonie. Personals Doris Elford, Marjorie Johns, Bill and Rhoda Rohde attended the potluck supper of the Kirkton Horticultural Christmas meeting on Tuesday evening at Kirkton Rec Centre. Josh Rath of Rath Roses, St. Marys, demonstrated how to make Christmas wreaths etc. They were given away to many happy members. Dorothy Honderich of New Hamburg spent the weekend with her son- in-law and daughter Paul and Virginia Warwick and Brett. Bill and Rhoda Rohde visited with their aunt Ruth Shier at Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys. Glenn and Marilyn Rohde, Bill and Rhoda Rohde were guests on Sunday with Dan and Nancy Rohde and Elizabeth at Ballinafad. NOTICE To RATEPAYERSM.
