Residents decorate Blue Water Rest Home for the holiday season
ZURICH - The residents
of Blue Water Rest Home
hung Christmas, door
decorations on Saturday
morning. Janice Bernard
of Grand Bend made
some of the decorations
for specific residents
who were friends of her
late husband Val who
was a resident at the
Home. The residents
gathered in the front
lobby and listened to
Christmas music.
In the afternoon the
residents watched "To
The Queen Mother From
Canada With Love", a
film produced by the
National Film Board of
Canada depicting the
many visits the Queen
Mother made to Canada
during her lifetime. The
residents requested a
second showing of the 30
minute video.
Those who attended
the Sunday morning ser-
vice at Zurich Mennonite
Church were Beatrice
Rader, Neil Mustard,
Clifford Jardine,
Clarence Gascho and
Margaret Hess.
Many residents gath-
ered in the auditorium to
view the service on T.V.
In the afternoon the resi-
dents enjoyed T.V. in the
west wing.
Monday afternoon the
residents watched a
video loaned by
Maplewoods Apartment
tenant Thea
V'andenBoom entitled
"Christmas Around the
World with Perry Como".
Many of her neighbours
'from Maplewoods
Apartments also attend-
ed the viewing.
The film took the resi-
dents on a trip to
Williamsburg, Virginia,
France, Mexico, etc. to
depict Christmas from
each country's perspec-
tive. Music of the season
was played throughout
the film.
The Grand Cove
Singers entertained the
residents on Wednesday

afternoon. Many mem,
bers of the group were
decked out, in seasonal
costume. Ann Didier and
Mel Norton sang solos,
the choir sang familiar
carols and refreshments
were served.
Thursday Chapel ser-
vice was conducted by
Rev. Doreen Canavan,
Brucefield United
Church.
Fr. Matthias «'ronski,
St. Boniface Church,
Zurich conducted the
Thursday afternoon and
Sunday morning Catholic
services.
The 30 -member St.
Peter's and St. Boniface
Church Youth Group,
under the direction of
Dianne Miller and
Harriet VanderBurght
sang many Christmas
carols for the residents
on Thursday evening. A
number of students nar-
rated a small drama
about the birth of Christ
in Bethlehem.
Auxiliary volunteers
Mary (Curtis) Gingerich
and Laurene Zehr assist-
ed with serving of
refreshments to the
young folk. Friday after-
noon the St. Boniface
School choir, under the
direction of Mrs. Gregus
and Mrs. Rau, and
pianist Mrs. Hoffman
sang a variety of
Christmas songs for the
residents.
Saturday -afternoon the
residents watched "Joan
of Arc" for their after-
noon movie.
The gentlemen had
their last hair cut for the
century by Murraiv
Kellar, rest home bar-
ber. -
of London entertained
the residents with
Christmas gospel music.
Sunday afternoon the
residents enjoyed tea in
the west wing lounge.
Bernice and Arthur Cann
were celebrating their
59th wedding anniver-
sary and Art was also
celebrating his 82nd
birthday.
Condolences go to the
family and friends of the
late Mary Dearie
Dickinson, a former ten-
ant of Maplewoods
Apartments who passed
away at the London
Health Sciences Centre,
Victoria Campus, London
on December 8 in her
82nd year. Mary's late
husband, John Arthur
Jack Dickinson passed
away October 16, 1997
while a resident at the
home.
The residents look for-
ward to a birthday party
with the Dashwood
Senior Citizens on
December 14, the Cubs,
Brownies, Beavers and
Girl Guides December
15, Corky & Friends
December 17, the St.
Peter's Choir December
20, Christian Reformed
choir December 21, Mt.
Carmel School Choir
December 22, the Zurich
Public School Choir
December 23 and a light
tour of the village.
Apologies to Nurse's
Aid Verlie Lavery who
was awarded a glass fig-
urine by the manage-
ment of Blue \Vater Rest
Home on December 3 in
honour of her 30 years
of service to the rest
home. It was reported as
20 years.
