South Huron District High School picked up its fifth win in a row at Wingham F.E. Madill in a 4-0 shutout. Charlsey O'Rourke earned the first shutout of her career between the pipes for the Panthers. South Huron did all their scoring in the sec- ond period. Kristine Regier got the Panthers going with an unassisted goal mid -way through the period. Krista Hodge scored with 6:24 left from Sarah Wuerth. Then Hodge picked up her second goal with 4:25 left, this time unassisted. Jessica Davies finished the scoring, her goal coming unassisted with 1:29 left in the period. South Huron coach Lynne Farquhar said the girls started out slow but picked up the pace to out -skate and out -muscle Madill. South Huron's record is 5-2-1. The Panthers will face a big, tough, fast - skating Listowel team during their last home game of the season tomorrow (Dec. 16) at South Huron Rec Centre. Game time is 2 p.m. Girl curlers rink advance to regionals GODERICH - A South Huron District High School girls curling rink will tangle with southwestern Ontario's best young curlers after qualifying for the regional Gore Mutual tournament. The rink of skip Beth Ann Hern, vice Laura Miller, lead Marilou Hern and second Jenni DeBlock won the 'B' side of this area s Gore tour- nament at Goderich's Maitland Curing Club on Dec. 11-12. They advance to the regional championships in February at Brantford. There they will compete against eight other teams for two places at the provin- cial championships in Owen Sound in March. A second $outh Huron team of Melanie Urquhart, Brianne Webber, Maggie Miller and Stacey Butson, also competed at the area Gore tournament. Both South Huron teams were up against teams from Kincardine, Goderich, Listowel and Clinton. The 'A' side was won by Clinton Central Huron Both South Huron girls rinks are coached by Laura Hern, Les Hills and Barry Miller. The area Gore boys tour- nament was held in Exeter SPORTS DIVOTS Blizzard Bash is back HENSALL - If there's a chill in the air you know it's almost time for the Winter Blizzard Bash. A fund-raiser for the Hensall Sr. A Sherwoods and Hensall Minor Hockey, the second annual dance will feature music by local band the Cherry Dogs. The event is scheduled for Jan. 8 starting at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $7 at the door or $5 advance. The Bash completes the annual Hensall 3 -on -3 hock- ey ockey tournament weekend. Two more teams are sought to fill out the 18 -team roster. Cost per tea is $200 with three games guaranteed. Each team is to consist of nine skaters and a goalie. You could be on your way to Las Vegas. The Stephen Twp. Arena Expansion Project is offer- ing ffering a chance for someone to win a trip to Las V egas. Contributors to the fund-raising drive will receive a chance to win the trip with every $100 donated. The trip includes round-trip air fare for two and hotel accommodation for three nights at the Imperial Palace. Donations must be received by Dec. 18 to be eligible for the draw which will be held at Stephen Arena Dec. 19. Organizers remind everyone all monetary donations are gratefully accepted. Hawks host Minor Hockey Nite EXETER -- The Exeter Jr. D.Hawks are giving its young fans a free ride this Friday. The Hawks are hosting their annual Minor Hockey Night on Friday when the Hawks host the Thamesford Trojans starting at 8:30 p.m. All minor hockey players will be let in free. There will be prizes drawn throughout the evening and RSD Sports Den will have their radar booth in the lobby so the kids can test the strength of their shot. The cost to participate in the radar booth is $1 ter three shots. Culbert shines at regional meet CAMP BORDEN -- Zurich's Melanie Culbert swam to six silver medals and a bronze medal'at the Huronia Regional Championships at Camp Borden on the weekend. Culbert finished second in the 800 m freestyle, the 400 m individual medley, the 200 m 1.M.. the 100 m backstroke, the 200 m backstroke and the medley relay. She won bronze in the 400 m freestyle. Her performances won Culbert a spot on the Ontario Winter Games team which will compete in Sault St. `Marie on March 17. on the weekend where a South Huron boys team failed to qualify for the regionals. London Lucas won the 'A' side while London CCH won the 'B' side. On Dec. 7 the girls curling teams played in Clinton and finished in third and fourth place. Urquhar's 'B' team including Miranda Knight beat out Beth Ann Horn's rink.
