Concerts scheduled for Centralia and Zion West UC

CENTRALIA. - On Dec.
2, the Sunday School
auditorium at Centralia
United Church was dec-
orated with sparkling
lights and angels for
the UCW Christmas din-
ner and meeting.
During the social
time, Janet Hicks, Pat
Gower and Adeline
Elliott served punch.
Supper was served by
Group II.
Following supper,
Marian Deline led a
singsong of favourite
Christmas songs,
accompanied by
Marjorie Johns on the
piano.
Jean Caslick opened
• the program on behalf
of Group 1. She wel-
comed everyone with a
brief message about
angels and read the
poem, "Angels in the
Snow". A skit, A View
from Above, was pre-
sented by Marian
Abbott • and June
Essery. Mary Peterson
and )fob Essery sang
Away In a Manger.
Iva Blair, Adline
Elliott, Mary Peterson,
Jean Calick, and
Marian Abbott lit the
candles of Hope, Peace,
Joy and Love in the
Advent Wreath to
remind everyone of the
meaning of Christ in
our lives.
The program closed
with the singing of "We
Wish You a Merry
Christmas".
The children and
teachers of the Sunday
School led the worship
at Centralia United
Church on White Gift
Sunday, Dec. 5.
Karen Windsor
opened the worship
service and welcomed
everyone. Joshua
Windsor led a prayer.
The candle of Peace,
the second candle in
the Advent Wreath, was
lit by the Kennedy fam-
ily.
Heather Wells read
the scripture from
Isaiah.

Re-enacting the birth of Christ
The Thames Road-Elimville United Church celebrated the Christmas season by ,
re-enacting the night Jesus Christ was born. Re-enactments took place at the
Parkette on Exeter's Main Street and back at the church.Above from left, Matthew
Johns, lan Osgood and Jeff Simmons acted as the candlelighters in the Bethlehem
marketplace re-enactment while below, Crystal Varley and Gerald Johns enter-
tained viewers with their costumes. Gifts for the Huron County Christmas

enjoyed a very special
telling of the Christmas
story in a slide presen-
tation by the Sunday
School. The children
wore costumes depict-
ing the main individu-
als in the story includ-
ing Mary, Joseph, the
baby Jesus, shepherds,
angels, and wise men.
Gifts of thanks were
presented to Carol
Powe and to the Tomes
for their assistance in
organizing this special
activity.
The offering was
accepted by Sam and
Aldeen Skinner.
Makayla Skinner gave
the- Prayer of
Dedication. The Prayer
of Thanks and Concern
was led by Lindsay
Power. Prayers and
concern were
expressed for the
Lenting family as they
encounter changes in
their lives as a result of
a house fire last week.
Upcoming events
This is the final week
for the Mitten Tree at
Centralia United
Church. Donations of
toques, mittens and
socks will be gratefully
accepted for the chil-
dren at CPRI.
Christmas concerts
will be held on Dec. 17
at both Centralia and
Zion West United
Churches. The program
will begin at Centralia
at 7 p.m. and at Zion at
8 p.m.
A Christmas Service
will be held on Dec. 18
at Worrell's Guest
House. All are welcome
to join in worship
beginning at 7 p.m.
Christmas Eve
Communion Service
will be celebrated at
Centralia United
Church on Dec. 24
beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Dec. 26, worship will
be celebrated at
Centralia at 11:30 a.m.
and at Zion West at
9:45 a.m., the regular
worship times.
Euchre results
In Crediton on Nov.
29, Harold Hodgins and
Lillian Baynham were
the high point winners.
The lone hand winners
were Edith Eaton and
Ruby Beaver. Mary
Kenney and Gord Eaton
had the lowest points
for the day.
W.I. celebrates Christmas
EXETER - The
Hurondale W.I. met at
the home of June
Stewart for their
Christmas meeting on
Nov. 24. A Christmas
pudding was served to
13 members and one
guest. A gift exchange
took place..,
President Fern
Dougall opened the
meeting with a reading
from The Friendship
Book; the Institute Ode
and the Mary Stewart
Collect were recited.
A short memorial
with recollections of
Mary Kernick was
observed. Kernick
joined the Institute in
1934 and was a life
member. Reports on
the area convention
were given. Marian
Dougall gave her report
on the Board Meeting
in Hensall. The District
Annual will be held in
Dashwood on May
18/00. Hurondale W.I.
made donations to the
Adult Day Centre, the
Christmas Bureau and
the Exeter Fall Fair.
The group broke for a
craft session, where the
members made angels
using pasta. June
Stewart's group took
over the program with
seasonal readings and
a fun Christmas bingo
contest was conducted.
