Several impaireds on Exeter court docket
EXETER -- Several men
pleaded guilty to impaired
driving charges at last
week's Exeter court ses-
sion at the Exeter Legion.
Two of those men each
received 14 days in jail to
be served on weekends
and a two-year driver's
licence suspension from
Judge R.G. Hunter due to
this being their second
drunk driving conviction.
Both men will also be on
probation while serving
their time.
London's Shaun
Simpson (formally of
Exeter), 21, was on
Huron Cty. Rd. 2 in Hay
Twp. on June 26 at about
10:40 p.m. when Exeter
OPP Const. George Finch
saw him disobey a stop
sign and then enter a
farm laneway. Finch then
saw one of the six occu-
pants of the vehicle throw
a beer can from a win-
dow.
Finch stopped the vehi-
cle and saw signs the dri-
ver had consumed alcohol
and eventually arrested
Simpson and took him to
the Exeter detachment
where Simpson blew dou-
ble the legal limit on a
breathalyzer.
Simpson was convicted
of a similar impaired dri-
ving charge on Oct. 26,
1996.
Zurich's Kristan Schenk,
22, was arrested by the
OPP on May 14 at about
2:40 a.m. The officers
were, northbound on
Morrison Line in Usborne
Township when `they
noticed a pickup in a farm
laneway. When the offi-
cers approached the
truck, they found the
engine and lights on with
the driver asleep with his
foot on the brake. An offi-
cer had to shake Schenk
to wake him up. Alcohol
was smelled on Schenk's
breath and he showed
other signs of alcohol con -
1
sumption.
Schenk was arrested
and taken to
the Exeter
detachmentY
where he blew
double the'
legal limit on a
breathalyzer.
Schenk was convicted of
a similar impaired driving
charge on June 8, 1995.
Lucan's Brian Herd, 24,
was handed a $1,000 fine
and a 12 -month driver's
licence suspension after
pleading guilty to an
impaired driving charge.
On May 7 at about
11:20 p.m., Herd was dri-
ving a '90 Chev eastbound
on Huron Cty. Rd. 36
while leaving Centralia.
Herd failed to stop for the
stop sign at Hwy. 4 and
ended up in the ditch.
The passenger and
owner of the vehicle
received a mouth injury
that shoved a tooth up
into his gums that
required dental surgery.
Herd also received a cut
to his knee requiring 14
stitches.
Tests later showed Herd
had double the legal limit
of alcohol in his blood.
RR1 Kirkton's Ronald
Simpson, 21, received a
$750 fine and a 12 -month
driver's licence suspen-
sion after pleading guilty
to an impaired driving
charge stemming from an
incident on Oct. 3. At 9:29
p.m. the OPP observed
Simpson fail to stop for a
stop sign while north-
bound on Huron Cty. Rd.
11 in Usborne Twp.
Simpson then sped his
vehicle up to 130 km/h on
wet roads. Simpson also
veered across the centre
line into the .path of a
tractor 'trailer and later
pulled into the ditch
(although Simpson main-
tains it was his driveway).
The OPP noticed tell-
tale signs of alcohol con-
sumption when talking to
Simpson and later arrest-
ed him and
took him to
the Exeter
'detachment
for breatha-
lyzer read-
ings. Simpson blew read-
ings of 230 mg and 210
mg of alcohol in 100 ml of
blood, almost three times
the legal limit.
Head kicking gets
fine
Huron Park's Thang Le
received a $500 fine and
12 months probation
after pleading guilty to
assault.
The charge stems from
a June 21 incident at the
Huron Park volleyball
courts. At about 10.m.
P .
Le approached the male
victim and kicked him in
the face with his steel -
toed boot knocking him
out for 10-15 minutes.
The victim was taken to
hospital and later
released.
The victim was the new
boyfriend of Le's ex-wife.
Le was also handed a
five-year weapons prohi-
bition.
A planter thing
Exeter's Mark Shepley,
18, pleaded guilty to mis-
chief under $5,000 over a,
flower planter dumping
incident that happened on
Exeter's Main St. at about
2:45 a.m., Aug. 15. He
received a $400 fine from
Judge Hunter.
Shepley and another
male were seen by a citi-
zen walking on the east
side of the street. The citi-
zen saw Shepley and his
cohort move the 80 lb

Improvement Association
planter from the side of a
building and dump the
plants and earth on the
road and leave the empty
planter on the road.
