Western Region OPP Chief Superintendent A. Parkin is .oncerned about the number of fatalities across the egion (Windsor to Guelph) over the past year. He said though the numbers are do*im slightly from last year, the numbers could be reduced even more if motorists would comply with the rules of the road. Last year, of the 160 fatalities in Western Region, 63 of the persons killed were not wearing seat belts in vehi- cles equipped with them. This year, of the 137 deaths, 43 people were not wearing seat belts. During a recent fatal collision on the 401, a driver was killed after being ejected from the vehicle. His teenage passenger who was wearing a seat belt received minor injuries and survived the crash. This year alone, 31 per cent of the people killed in traf- fic accidents may have been saved if they had worn a seat belt.
