Pictured from left are arenas -manager Kevin Geoffrey, vice - chairperson of the fund-raising committee Cheryl Durand (with daughter , Rachelle) and Grand Knight Gord Smith.The Knights of Columbus raised the money at a volleyball tournament in early November.The fund-raising committee has 'raised $24,000 so far towards its goal of $800,000 to renovate the arena and Durand said canvassing will start in February 2000. Work on the new arena floor will begin in April, although Durand said she expects fund-raising to continue for the next few years.The committee's next major fund-raising effort is its New Year's Dance.Tickets are available at the arena for $30 per person and all pro- ceeds go towards the 'Save the Babe' campaign. The Windsor family lft the first candle in the Advent wreath at Centralia, the candle of Hope. During worship, Minister Scott was assisted by Sam Skinner in officially wel- coming Charlotte Blok into the church. Charlotte is an active supporter of the church, and transferred her membership to Centralia United church. Large and small people were bundled up against a brisk wind to watch the Centralia Santa Claus Parade following worship. The children received many candies from the various groups participat- ing articipatingin the parade. Becky Kindree and Cathie Westman hosted the luncheon and euchre at the Lion's Hall in the park pavilion on Friday, Nov. 26. Prizes for high score, lone hands and low score were awarded to Becky Kindree, Margaret Burton and Cathie Westman and everybody received consolation prizes. At the Granton United Church on Sunday, Nov. 28, Lay Pastor Val Hodgins entitled the sermon 'We are in God's Hands' based on lessons' from Isaiah 64 and Mark 13. The Advent Candle for hope was placed on the table and cover provided by the Youth Group and lit by Lillus Riddell and granddaughter Taylor Jones. Fifteen young people received Sunday School awards for 26 weeks attendance. Doreen McRobert presented each person with an egg decorated with an angel which she had made. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on the first Sunday in Advent, Nov. 28 Canon Michael. Griffin of Stratford celebrated the Holy Eucharist. His message was about being prepared for the com- ing of Christ. The lessons were read by Rosemary Schaefer and the minister and the candle of Hope -in the Advent Wreath was lit by Sarah and Garth Wackier. own float at the end of the parade. Everyone waved as he travelled through Centralia to Huron Park and then back to the North Pole to prepare for a very busy time ahead. Upcoming Events As we turn the calendar from November to December 1999, there are many celebrations to note for the coming month. Everyone is invited to come and join in these special activities. There is a Mitten Tree in the sanctuary at Centralia United Church. Donations of toques, mittens and socks will be gratefully accepted for the children at CPRI. On December 2, the UCW will hold their Christmas dinners at Zion West and. Centralia United Church. Dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. at Centralia, and all ladies of the church and their spouses are wel- come to attend this time of food and fellowship.. A Potluck supper will be held at Zion at 7:30 p.m. for ladies and their spous- es. All women of the church are members of the UCW, and will want to attend these wonderful times. The Thames 'Road- Elimville Pastoral. Charge invites everyone to a Progressive Christmas Story which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on December 3. Participants will share the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. Refreshments will be served in the church. Sunday, December 5 is White Gift Sunday at Centralia and Zion West United Churches. The teachers, parents, and children have contributed a great deal of effort to organizing a very special occasion. Christmas Concerts will be held on December 17 at both Centralia and Zion West United Churches. The program will begin at Centralia at 7:00 p.m. and at Zion at 8:00 p.m. A christznas. Service will be held on December 18th at Worrell's Guest House. All are welcome to join in worship beginning at 7:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Communion Service .will be celebrated at Centralia United Church on December 24 beginning at 7:30 p.m. On December 26, wor- ship will be celebrated at Centralia at 11:30 a.m. and at Zion West at 9:45 a.m., the regular worship 'times.
