(photo/Craig Bradford) • By Craig Bradford TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF LUCAN, -- The Ausable Community Centre (ACC) now has. a couple of homers to run the show. ACC president- Tom McInerney announced the hiring of executive direc- tor Barbara Beach and her assistant Owen Gidley at the ACC's appreciation night last Friday. Beach and Gidley began their new jobs on Monday. The positions are part time till new government funding comes in sometime in the new year. Beach has over 20 years of administrative experi- ence including three years as director of development with the London Museum of Archeology, her last Yf 5 Pte. Before that position, Beach served with Canada Employment and Immigration and was the executive director of London's Women's Community House. Beach has lived in Biddulph Township for the last 13 (and a half) years with her husband Kirk Wallis and their two chil- dren, Christopher, 17, and Alyssa, 14, both Medway High School students. Beach was clearly excit- ed about taking on the challenge of running the ACC. "I think the (ACC) is a gem," she said. "I7i's a treasure. We are very for- tunate to have it in the community." "I'm a firm believer in that" idley lived in Lucan from '89-96 and now lives in Ilderton. Last year he served as the Lucan Optimist Club president. His full-time job is as . a painter with London's St. Joseph's Health Centre. The ACC held its appre- ciation night to recognize its community partners and sponsors. Those partners include the Lucan Optimists, Lucan Area Heritage, the Lucah-Biddulph Community Policing Committee, the federal government, . Huron Resources I yvelopment Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the provincial government and the Township of Lucan-Biddulph. Corporate sponsors rec- ognized included Tom McInerney and Scotia McLeod, Premium Pork Canada, Gollan Holdings, Douglas Cassan and Royal LePage Trimark Realty and C. Haskett & Son Funeral Home. McInerney said the appreciation night was also a celebration of rural partnerships the ACC has been able to foster over its almost two years of exis- tence. The accomplishments include the employment resource centre, youth projects, helping with Communities In Bloom and fund-raising. While Perth -Middlesex MP John Richardson was not able to attend, several other dignitaries were on hand including I-(RDC's Noreen Davis, Perth - Middlesex MPP Bert Johnson, Lucan .Area Heritage president Sally Hodgins, Lucan Optimists president Len Anderson and Friends of the Lucan Library's Claire Anderson. McInerney noted the ACC originated with the Friends of the Library. The celebration' also fea- tured the premiere of Lucan artist Jan Brouwer's 'Imagine' exhibit at the ACC and showcased local young singers. McInerney took the opportunity to update those in attendance on ACC news. He said the ACC will cow tinue to support and. cre- ate partnerships at its cur- rent location since the township blocked its move .to relocate to the former Village of Lucan offices across the street. McInerney said the two- year term of the ACC directors including himself are coming to an end -and • they are looking for volun- teers and new board members.
