Volunteers from this very successful event have had a few weeks of well-deserved rest The preparation for another event with pizzazz is happening right now. Volunteers are busy orga- nizing and planning a gala weekend - South Huron District High School's All - Years Reunion. This fun - filled weekend is planned for June 30 to July 2, 2000. The plans are starting to fall into place with several events. A Wme and Cheese Party on Friday night will now Lister of Health for the Province of Brio, on hand to stimulate and chall, a everyone with her CI( >1 : address. These ceremonies win also allow alumni the chance to share their talents (former and present). Saturday's agenda begins bright and early and welcomes partakers to enjoy the day with for- mer friends. Some of Saturday's festivities include: breakfast, staff luncheon, variety show, beef BBQ, memorabilia rooms and a gala dance offering lots of chances to reminisce and compare stories. This evening will also be celebrated with `Canada Day' fireworks. Sunday will allow alumni to meet again over a conti- nental breakfast while they await the closing cer- emonies. These cere- monies will bring fitting closure to an excellent weekend of memories and fun. The committee is delighted to have Elizabeth Witmer, former South Huron graduate, rent mailing address! There was no tag on it, and the mysterious package had everyone in the lam' essing a_ we hered together for Christmas dinner. Like many times before, our family enjoyed a wonderful dinner, but this year we also shared memories of holidays past, especially those with Dad. Soon, it was time to exchange our gifts. As the younger grandchildren eagerly tore into the brightly wrapped packages, it tool: me hack to when I was a child. Dad had always made Christmas special for us, and he always seemed to • know how to pick just the right gift. I admit, I had been apprehensive about the holiday season this yea. hecause it was our4irst since Dad passed away. You are; he just loved this time 44 yeat . His joy and'enthusidsm made the holidays for this family, and it was hard to imagine that they were here, and he wasn't. Although the mystery of the gift seemed to bring our family closer togethe, I wondered • how not having Dad here would affect us ..especially my Mother, She remi- nisced about their • second Christmas together. They lord just learn- ed she was expecting their first child. -How spacial that Christmas. was! Everyone loved hearing Mom tell tate story. Finally, the only unopened package that remained was the one on Dad's chair. We weren't sure who should open it, but after some discussion, we agreed that it should he my oldest son, since he had always been very close to his Grand- father. He said it was an honor to he chosen, and then Even smiles and. tear_ all around when. we saw the was a handsome, framed portrait of Dad— just the way we all remember him. Who in our family had been thoughtful enough to give us this gift? It still remains a mystery, hut it made me realize that all memories are a gift— ours to cherish for the, rest of•our lives.
