Happy to be in a
small town
Dear Editor:
Last week I had an experience which made me very
happy to be living in a small town like Exeter. I was
uptown running some errands, one of which was a
stop at the money machine to withdraw some cash.
When I got back home I discovered that I had lost my
wallet? Imagine the panic! A trip back uptown to the
places I had been and phone calls to police etc. did not
prove fruitful but in less than two hours I got a phone
call from both the lady who found it and the bank she
had reported it to. I got my wallet back with everything
intact! It is so good to know in these times when you
hear so much about break-ins and thefts that there are
still people out there who are very honest. I. am sure
she could have used the money but she did the right
thing and gave it back. This has happened to others I
know and I am thankful it happened to me. It is good
for these people to be acknowledged and be thanked.
So thank you very much Kimberly Payne for being
such an honest person. It is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, DOROTHY GAISER
.News from St. Anne's
by PHILIP J. McMILLAN
The parents' night last week was well attended
and parents were able to get to see their student's
teachers to discuss areas of success and areas for
improvement in the remainder of the semester.
The night was also the first chance parents had to
see one option for the proposed school uniform. A
display is set up in the school front lobby for any-
one who missed it that night. The reaction to mai-
forms
aiforms was very positive.. On Friday a studett
modeled one version of the uniform to classes'.
Students heard from Mr. McCarroll, the Vias
Principal, why a uniform would be a positiliti
choice at St. Anne's. An information[ package
went home to let parents know that the school
council sub -committee was offering information to
parents in consideration of a school uniform. The
most important aspect of this issue is the motto
"MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION". The parents
and students are asked to read the information
and begin a discussion about the concept. I am
very pleased with all the work that the sub -com-
mittee has done already to look at uniforms and
all that they represent. There will be a meeting
on December 15th to continue the dialogue. The
meeting will be an open forum to all parents of
students in grade 7 to OAC. We are preparing an
information package to be distributed to the stu-
dents in grades 7 and 8 prior to the grade 8 visits
in early December. I am hopeful that people will
make their decision based on information provid-
ed. •
We will have our Christmas Semi -Formal Dance
on Friday, December 10th. Students are reminded
that the conditions of sale are as postedin the stu-
dent handbook. You must pre -register guests,
have a student's card on entry, and tickets may
not be transferred. Parents who have not seen the
Panther Profile
Hello and welcome to the final edition of the
Panther Profile for November.
To me. it seems like this year has flown by
because in less than a month
we are off for Christmas vaca-
tion.
This week is a busy one for
graduates. On Friday univer-
sity applications are due and
college applications will be
handed out. For all those
applying to college, the cost is
$65 and, this allows you to
apply to five colleges. The
applications are due back to
the Guidance Office on Mon.,
Dec. 20.
Saturday is the annual Christmas Parade
down Main Street in Exeter. The South
Huron bands will be playing in it, so come on
out and support us!
The next event Student Council has planned'
is a motivational speaker. His name is Stu
(formerly in the partnership of Andy and Stu
but now on his own) and he will be talking to
the whole school. This happens on Mon.,
Nov. 29.
There are still stpderit'cards and diplomas
in the main office that need to be picked up.
Please help the secretaries out and claim
these as soon as possible.
Finally, on behalf of the school, I would like
to wish the Junior Girls' Basketball Team
good luck at WOSSA this weekend!

This week was a very exciting one for our GIris'
Junior and Senior Basketball Teams as they
entered their first ever Huron Finals. Games were
played in Exeter and Goderich. The girls went on
to play in Stratford and Clinton. We are vo y
proud of what they acgomplished this season. I
would also like to congratulate the hardworking
coaches for their efforts this semester. All too
often the media fails to show the powerful effect
and positive results that occur in the co -curricular
Work done by students and staff. We are richer
for all time efforts and we can't imagine a school
system without this positive component. If you
have not gone to a game or show at a high school
lately, it's long overdue. The energy is incredible!
