Students collect food for the hungry
CLINTON - For a Thanksgiving
assembly at Clinton and District
Christian School (CDCS) on the Friday
prior to Thanksgiving weekend, the
students at the Clinton and District
Christian School collected food for
needy people. The Grade 8 class col-
lected and sorted the food into boxes.
They collected a box full of macaroni
and cheese, several boxes of canned
vegetables and desserts, as well as
many other food items. During the
assembly the Grade 6 class put on a
play about thankfulness and from the
other classes there were songs and
poetry recitations. Many parents
showed up and filled all of the extra
chairs.
CDCS has had a few changes this
year. Right now the school has 222
students and nine new families. A new
teacher, Miss Folkema who teaches
Grade 6, comes from Beachville and
graduated from the University of
Guelph and Redeemer College in
Ancaster. Over the past few sumnters
she worked as a counsellor and co-
director at Camp Shalom near her
home. She is our'rls' soccer coach.
8t
She teaches Grade 8 spelling and
grammar.
The soccer tournament was fun. The
teams played at the North London
Community Park against six other
Christian Schools. The boys did well
coming in third, while the girls were
defeated at the first play-off round.
A more recent school happening was
the Scholastic Book Fair. The Gift
Chest, a Christian Book Store from
Wingham, was also part of this fair. A
representative of the Gift Chest
brought CDs for the Grade 7 and 8
classes to listen to. Some of the CDs
including the "Bunch of Believers"
group were very good. At the book
fair, which was held in the gym, there
were many books for the younger
grades. They had pencils, erasers and
posters for sale as well. The Gift
Chest had a lot of "Veggie Tales" mer-
chandise, including videos, games and
puppets. They also had many devotion-
al books and Christian novels.
At the same time as the book fair,
CDCS had an open house and a hobby
fair. Many students brought in their
hobbies and displayed them on tables
and on the stage. There were many
Beanie Baby collections and one table
was taken up by dinosaurs. Andrew De
Koning brought in his big 3D puzzles
(a Millennium Falcon and two
Titanics).
Next week the students are looking
forward to the Londesboro cross coun-
try meet as well as a two day teacher's
convention. In the following week the
Grade 8 class plans to visit London
District Christian Secondary School. On
Friday Nov. 5, CDCS will hold the
annual talent and services auction.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The millennium has
GRAND BEND - Now
that Huron Country
Playhouse% has officially
closed down for the "1999
season, they welcome the
new millennium with
great excitement.
The official standing of
the 1999 season will be
announced at the annual
general meeting in
November, but the
patrons response to the
past season has been out-
standing, according to
public relations director
Chris Dorscht.
As the summer came to
a close and with a resent
subscription renewal
period, the comments
begun at Playhouse
have been very positive.
The loyal Playhouse sub-
scribers, and members
have enjoyed .the bal-
anced playbill.
"Even though our
patrons mainly enjoy the
comedies and musicals,
by giving them something
different like a mystery or
drama, it really gives a
nice balance to the whole
season experience at the
Playhouse", Dorscht said.
"This is exactly what we
have done with the 2000
season playbill."
Next season includes
the usual two musicals
that start and end the
season plus a mixture of
comedy and mystery in
between. The season
opener .Is gaining great
acceptance from the
school groups who are
happy the Playhouse is
returning to a musical
more geared towards
younger children. '
Subscriptions sales are
up compared to this time
last year. The Playhouse
is also starting to gear up
for its group sales period
which will start in
November and the
Christmas Gift Certificate
season.
The Playhouse Box
Office is open Mon. to Fri.
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Country Christmas HomeTour set for Nov. 1214
PORT FRANKS - Six beautiful
homes located in the historic lake-
side community of Pork Franks are
lined up for this year's Country.
Christmas Home Tour, on Nov. 12,
13 and 14. The homes will be fully
decked out for the holidays with
Christmas finery, flowers and deco-
rative innovations assembled by a
team of the best design profession-
als the region has to offer. Visitors
have the opportunity to tour these
architecturally interesting homes,
and view the interiors at their
absolute best. Each home overlooks
the lake, or an inland lake, taking
advantage of the remarkable natur-
al assets offered by the port com-
munity.
Lakefront homes include the
house of Dianne and Neil Graham,
which uses lots of glass to take
advantage of those famous Lake
Huron sunsets. A feature not to be
missed is the master bedroom, with
its four-poster overlooking the
beach. Dianne does much of her
own decorating, and shows off the
bed with a white top she fashioned
`from a cotton tablecloth and a set of
placemats!
Another waterfront home featured
on the tour is that of Connie and Bill
Graham. This house features an all -
glass front facing the lake, and
remarkable landscaping of the gen-
erous front yard.
The Country Christmas Home
Tour is an annual fundraiser to sup-
port educational exhibits, events
and school programs offered by the
Lambton Heritage Museum. The
show is in its seventh year, and
draws 1500 visitors. The show pre-
view runs the evening of November
12, with the general tours Nov. 13
and 14, from noon to 4 p.m. A new
addition to the show is made by
Pork Franks volunteers, who will
operate a tea room at the Port
Franks Community Centre, serving
light lunches and refreshments
throughout the day.
The special opening night Candle -
Glow Preview on Friday, Nov. 12
allows visitors to enjoy the homes lit
by candles and lamps, and to beat
the crowds. The twinkle and
sparkle have developed a reputation
for this evening as being a I roman-
tic night out'. The Designer's
Reception follows at the Sand Hills
Golf Resort Clubhouse, giving pre- ,
view ticket -holders the chance to
personally meet the designers that
put the creative show together.
The affordable ideas, the wide
range of architectural spaces in
each of the homes, and the design
solutions artfully applied to each,
make the home tour a popular
annual outing.
Tickets for the tour may be picked
up at any of the Participating design
firms, including Flower Shop
Zurich; Frontier Flowers in Parkhill;
Gilpin Furniture in Thedford;
Murray's Christmas House; and
