LUCAN — The Lucan Jr.
D Irish put in two stellar
efforts last week to recap-
ture first place in the
Morenz Division.
At Parkhill North
Middlesex on Saturday,
the Irish blanked the
Stars 2-0 on a fine perfor-
mance by goaltender Joe
Dobbie who earned the
shutout.
Both of Lucan's goals
were scored in the first
period.- Kevin Dunbar put
the Irish on the board at
9:02 from Darryl Parsons.
Ben Dobbie finished the
scoring at 4:54 from
Dunbar and Adam
Wagner.
The Irish outshot
Parkhill 40-32.
At home on Oct. 27, the
Irish erased a 1-0 deficit
in the first period with six
unanswered goals on to a
6-2 victory over
Thamesford.
Ryan Keating got Lucan
on the board by scoring
on the powerplay from
Corey Smith at 12:47 of
the first.
Ben Dobbie gave the
Irish the lead less than
two minutes later from
Dunbar.
Mark VanVliet scored a
powerplay goal from
Chad Lambourn and
Dunbar at 15:51 of the
first and Dobbie notched
his second goal or the
night, this time on the
powerplay, from Dunbar
and Jason Amey at 11:21
of the second period.
Smith put Lucan up 5-1
at 15:10 of the second
from Dunbar and Dobbie
and newcomer Ed
Etheridge scored his first
goal with the Irish with a
second left in the second
period.
Thamesford scored a
goal early in the third
period but both teams
kept the puck out of the
next for the rest of the
game.
Irish goaltender Jon
Wickens faced 29 shots
white his teammates
threw 27 shots at Trojan
goaltender Craig Murrell.
Thamesford forward
and Lucan native Rob
Silver played in front of a
hometown crowd for the
first time this season.
Irish coach Jason
Bukala said not taking
dumb penalties is key to
beating Thamesford.
The powerful power-
play, good goaltending
and sound defence Lucan
has demonstrated in the
last two. -games has them
headed towards two of
their season -ending goals:
to have the most goals for
and the fewest against.
Lucan's record
improves to 7-4, good for
first place in the division.
The Irish host Mitchell
tonight (Nov. 3) at 8:15
p.m., travel to Port
Stanley on Nov. 5 and
head to Lambeth on Nov.
7. Lucan will host Hwy. 4
rivals Exeter on Nov. 10,
another 8:15 p.m. start.
Panther field hockey done for '99
PARKHILL — The South
Huron District High
School field hockey
team's season came to an
abrupt end at WOSSA in
Parkhill last Friday.
The Panthers played
host North Middlesex in
their first game. North
Midd opened the scoring
in the first half• and put
South Huron on the
defensive.
The Panthers went full
out in the second half and
evened the score on a
goal by Sarah Workman.
The Panthers kept the
pressure 'on but couldn't
find the net.
The team ran out of gas
in a back-to-back game
against Medway and lost
3-0.
Medway then played
North Midd in a back-to-
back game. Medway
scored two early goals to
improve the Panthers
chances of qualifying for
the next round but then
lost their aggressive play
to finish the game 3-1.
South Huron was elimi-
nated due to the goals for
difference.
Panther coach Jim
Workman said his young
team had an excellent
season and should be
"very competitive" next
year if they work hard.
