The short -benched Hawks lost 6-5 but con- tinued to fight for the tie till the end. The Lancers kept the Hawks scoreless in the first period while taking a 1-0 lead to the dress- ing room after the first period. Exeter stormed back for four goals in the sec- ond period. Tyler McTavish got Exeter on the scoreboard less than two minutes into the period and was ,assisted by Jaakko Heikinnen and Jeff Glover. Lambeth then scored two goals in less than two minutes to take a 3- 1 lead. Nick Regier start- ed off Exeter's comeback by scoring at the half way point of the period from Christian Stuckless. Then Dave Farquhar notched a powerplay goal less than two min- utes later from Ben McCann. - Farqu ar. scored his second goalof the night with 19 sec- onds left in the frame from Stuckless to give the Hawks a 4-3 lead. Hawks ran out of g the third and eth took advantage to score three unan- swered goals. Exeter kept it close with Heikinnen scoring with 3:58 left in the game. Coach Andy Friyia said he's pleased with how the team .performed under the circumstances since a number of regu- lar players were out of the' lineup. Shawn Sherwood (broken collar bone), Greg Pilling (bro- ken ankle) and Jon Miller (bad back) are still out due to injury, Jarrett Jeffrey is listed as day- to-day due to a mild con- cussion, Berton Dykstra has taken a leave of absence from the team and Jason Mandarelli sat out due to a suspension. Mandarelii and Miller should- be back this week. A missing link to Exeter's winning form, Geoff Mayer, will be back Dec. 15 (he's at pilot's school). Maver's physical play will be a welcome addition, Friyia said. "I have no idea how good this hockey team is because 1 haven't seen them all together yet," he said. Fourteen -year-old Tony Regier was called up to help bolster the ranks. On top of the hurt play- ers, Jason Grenier was handed two "1 make no 10 -minute apologies for my misconductsclub's enthusiasm were . D HAWKS COACH tied for last received 10 ANDY FRIYIA place in the minute Morenz Division," he continued. "I make no apologies for my club's enthusiasm for a win we weren't supposed to get. When you are the class of the league, you have to real- ize everyone wants to knock you off. I hope Mr. Bukala deals with his next defeat to a lesser team with a little more class." est stretch of the season: six straight road games in just 10 nights. Exeter will be in Seaforth Nov. 5, in Thamesford Nov. 7, in. Lucan Nov. 10, in Mitchell Nov. 12, in Mount Brydges Nov. 13 and finally Belmont Nov. 14. Exeter's record stands at 6-6,. good for second place. Friyia hopes to come out of the torturous road trip with seven points, enough he feels to secure a lock on second. Friyia then wanted to respond to Lucan Irish coach Jason Bukala's statements in the T -A last week about the joy the Hawks displayed after beating their Hwy. 4 rival on Oct. 22. "Until this season I've never heard of Mr. Bukala. I assume he has- n't coached for long as a seasoned coach knows better to make a com- ment of that nature," Friyia said. "The fact is last season the Irish majors instead of the normal five-minute fighting major. With all the missing players, Friyia was happy captain Farquhar was able to come to the rescue; "It was nice to see Davey Farquhar step up to the plate," he said. The Hawks will embark on their tough - Stick down.
