They were taught how to do a top light fire. They also played a fast game of basketball. The first year Scouts did opening and closing for the first time. The Hay Township Hall in Zurich continues to provide a meeting place for its citizens. The second of eight progressive euchre evenings planned by the Zurich Golden Agers was held on October 25 at 7:30 p.m. with nine tables in play. Winners were: Ladies high, Phylis Deichert; ladies second high, Marie Cyr; ,Men high, Orlen Schwartzentruber, Men's second high, Glenn Deichert; Lone hands, Doris Hamilton. Other draw winners were Rita Snyder, Elroy Desjardine, Isabell Rogerson and Doreen Dietrich. The regular Friday afternoon pro- gressive'Pepper games starting at 1 p.m. have been popular and winners during October for draws made are Ina Neeb, Ina Russell, MIllie Webber, Barb Conlon, Elroy Desjardine, Orlen Schwartzentruber, Lottie Grenier, Linda Webber, Gwen McKellar, Francis Ayotte, Sheldon Wein and Jim Davis. The Quilters met on October 18 at 1:45 and block of the month draw win- ner was Irene Hoffman with the pat- tern "Brave World". Anyone interested in events hosted by the Golden Agers are invited to attend. New members are always needed. The annual bazaar at St. Boniface Parish on Saturday was a big success. Several lucky winners went home with gifts won from the penny sale and mer- chants' table. Winner of a baby quilt was Cecile Meidinger, Zurich. The patio table went to Josephine Dietrich if Mt. Carmel and the stone bird -house was won by Rose -Mary Ducharme, Zurich. A large fruit basket went to Jean Mommersteeg of Grand Bend and grocery boxes were won by Charlene Finkbeiner and Alice Masse, Zurich. A new craft store opened on the weekend on Main Street, Zurich. It is called "Home at Last" and sells all kinds of home-made articles. Owners are Chris. and Greg McAdams. Halloween parties were held on Friday at the two Zurich schools and at the Bean Sprouts Nursery School. The Optimist Club sponsored a youth dance and costume bowling party for Zurich youngsters on the weekend. The Dominion Tavern also held a Halloween party on the weekend. The fundraising costume dance at the arena on Saturday night was a big suc- cess. Anyone needing tickets for the St. Anne's school play in Clinton entitled "Our Town" may phone the school as soon as possible. Adults are $8 and students $6. The play runs on November 4, 5, and 6 at 7:30 p.m. each night and on November 7 at 2 p.m. Those attending a convention in Hamilton from October 24 to 26 included Blue Water Ladies Auxiliary president Gladys Gingerich, Region #3 Auxiliary president Donna Klopp, Blue Water employees Sharon, Kathy Steckle, Catherine Shantz and board member Stuart Steckle. The cash calendar daily draws have started and run until the end of February. The Zurich Minor Athletic Association is sponsoring the project. For the $20 tickets, call Nancy Regier at 236-4420. The next Lions Club dinner/meeting will be held at the Dominion Tavern on November 10 at 7 p.m. Let Lion Louis Willert know ahead of time if you plan to attend. The next Golden Agers meeting will be held at the Township Hall in Zurich on November 8 at 1:30 p.m. Membership dues of $10 are being collected for the following year. Plans are being made to celebrate the Diners 10th anniversary on November with a special program. There nex party will be held on November 7;30 p.m. The cost is S3 at the d St. Bonife t. Peter's Youth Group (grades 5-8) will be going swimming on November 4 in Vanastra at 6:30 p.m. Parents are needed to drive - phone Dianne Miller at 236-4479. A Bake Sale and Tea will be held at the Blue Water Rest Home on November 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. There will be a penny sale table and draws. This event is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary and donated baking is appre- ciated. The Zurich Cubs will be wearing their uniforms to school on Remembrance Day, November 11. On November 15 they will be going swim- ming in Exeter at Kick's. They will leave from the public school at 6:30 p.m. and will return by 8:45 p.m. The president of the Women's Institute attended the District Rally on October 28 in Mt. Bridges along with Lottie Grenier and Bridget Groot, District president. Eight women of St. Boniface C.W.L. attended a Deanery meeting at St. Joseph's Parish, Listowel on October 27. There will be a Farm Practice Workshop at the Township Hall in Zurich on November 4 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Ten members of the Agricultural Society went to the annual District #8 dinner/meeting in Mitchell on October 26 at the Crystal Palace Hall. Several from the Zurich area enjoyed a bus trip to Muskoka mid the Cranberry Festival from OctoW 15 to 17. They also went on a 2 1/2 hour boat cruise from Midland, among the islands of Georgian Bay. Bus driver was Doug Erb of Zurich. Anyone interested in a one -day bus trip to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto on November 9 may call Doug at 236-4052. There is also a four-day trip planned for November 10 to 13 to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to see the play "The Miracle of Christmas". The Sparks, Brownies and Guides held their weekly meeting at the Mennonite Church Hall on November 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Leaders are Nicole Veroude and Ruth Zielman- Zehr. The girls will be selling cookies this week at $3 per box. On November 8 they will be having an enrollment party with fun and games as well as a supper. Some members of the Mennonite Church raked leaves last Saturday for some of the town's seniors. Personals Happy birthday wishes go to Connie Masse on November 1 and Rosie Rothenberg on November 2.
