Marilyn Carter was in charge of the church ser- vice on Sunday at Elimville. Ian Osgood lit the Christ Candle. Rev. Carter told the chil- dren's story and the choir sang "God Will Defend You" accompanied by pianist Marilyn Vandenbussche. Grace Pym read scrip- tures. The title of the min- ister's sermon was "Pure Motive Power". Marilyn Pym and June Stewart received the offering and were the. greeters. The Sunday School would like people to save their large coffee cans to 4-H members taste -test muffins LUCAN - The Lucan III 4-H club held their first two meetings recently. On Oct. 16 the first meeting of the group `Batter Up' was held at Julie Pryce's home. The group discussed objec- tives and general require- ments of the club. Each member received a piece of paper with a baking ingredient written on it and they had to talk about that ingredient. They learned how to measure with dry and liq- uid measuring cups before they made microwave brownies. The members sampled veggie squares which were provided by Melanie Marr. The brownies would be eaten at the next meeting. On October 23 the sec- ond meeting was held. The members opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge and answered the roll call by each naming their favourite muffin. Karen Crowley and Kristi Taylor made blueberry muffins. They discussed baking tips and muffin compar- isons from the members' manuals. Club elections were held. Jennifer Hogervorst became president, Karen Crowley vice president, and Melanie Marr became the secretary. The members, leaders and some parents had an opportunity to taste dif- ferent muffins before the meeting was closed. be used for their progres- sive Christmas Story. YO.Ii may leave them at either church. The Sunbeams will meet at Thames Road Church on November 4 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fall schedule On Oct. 31 atThames Road, Hallow's Eve will be held. On November 7 the Remembrance Day service will be held at Elimville. On November 14 the Stewardship Blues will be held at Thames Road. Baptism is scheduled for Octbber 21 at Elimville. If anyone is interested in baptism, call Rev. Marilyn Carter. The first Sunday of Advent is on November 28 at Thames Road. On Monday nights only, October 25 to November 29, there will be a Bible study of six videos "Wrestling with Angels". Sunbeams and Messengers are having a Halloween party at Thames Road Church at 6:30 p.m. Please bring potluck finger food. Refreshments will be pro- vided. There will be prizes for the best cos- tumes and treat bags for the children. Everyone is welcome and bring a friend. Youth Group for grades four and up will be held Oct. 30. They will be going on a night walk around Morrison Dam. Meet at Thames Road Church at 6:30 p.m. Bring a flashlight. The Finance Committee is planning a Time, Talent and Treasure Auction on November 12 at Kirkton- Woodham Community Centre. Viewing will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the auction to follow. Pledge forms are avail- able at the back of the church. On November 15 there will be a special congre- gational meeting at Thames Road at 8 p.m. to hear and discuss the pre- liminary report of the building review commit- tee. There will be no action taken at this meet- ing. Council will meet on November 3 at Thames Road at 7 p.m. with the Committee meeting at 8:30 p.m. Personals Fred Delbridge is a patient in University Hospital, London, having undergone surgery on Friday. Get well wishes are extended. Bill and Rhoda Rohde visited Sunday afternoon and were supper guests with Murray and Beatrice Dawson at Huron Woods, Grand Bend. A number of people of this areaattended an evening of gospel music on Sunday night at Crediton United Church. Performing were: St. Paul's Quartet with a piano accompanist of Chatham; Harmony Four Quartet of Brampton; Roy Dreaning of Mt. Forest; and Bob Heywood as M.C. The Thames Road Elimville Choir put on a skit at Crediton United Church at the South Huron Rally on Thursday night.
