Zurich Scouts erect flagpole at new camp property

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - The Scouts in
Zurich hold joint meet-
ings with the Bayfield
Scouts, in Zurich.
They currently have
eight Scouts with Hub
Thiel, Mark Delange and
Gerry Neilands as the
Scouters and Peter
MacLeod as an SIT.
Bayfield has three Scouts
with Bill and Janice
Stauttener as the
Scouters.
For the first meeting
they had an introduction
to Scouts, a game and a
fireside chit chat outside
Since then they have
been working on badge
work and preparing the
new Scouts for investi-
ture.
On October 15 to 17
they went to the District
Camp where they erect-
ed the flag pole at the
soon-to-be named camp
property.
They did landscaping
and built picnic tables in
the morning.
There were Scouting
activities in the after-
noon. They included
sumo wrestling, water
rockets, bridge swing,
noodle sword, fighting,
compass course and the
Jamboree on the Air.
' They had an ina;
campfire with many
skits. Scouts Own was
held around the flagpole
Sunday morning, just
before closing.
They helped with the
Food Drive hi Bayfield on
October 21 and held an
Apple Day. on October 23
along with the Cubs and
Beavers groups.
The groups were treat-
ed to pop and chips
afterwards.
There will be a
Halloween party for the
Cubs, Beavers, Sparks,
Brownies and Guides on
October 27 in the gym at
Zurich Public School.
St. Boniface School will
be having a
parent/teacher council
meeting on October 24 at
7:30 p.m. in the gym.
St. Boniface C.W.L. and
parish are having their
annual fall bazaar on
October 30 from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. in the church
hall. Everyone is wel-
come.
Be. sure to dress up in a
Halloween costume and
attend the fundraising
Mad Bash at the Zurich
Community Centre on
Saturday evening,
October 30 from 9 p.m.
to 1 a.m.
Tickets are available
from Cheryl Durand, J&L
Variety store or you can
get them at the door for
$5 per person.
Music will be donated
by the ban "Fireflys".
The Optimist Club will
be having their annual
meeting at the Town and
Country Lanes on
November 3 at 7 p.m.
The annual Christmas
Penny Sale for Precious
Blood Mission C.W.L.
with a silent auction and
bake sale will be held on
November 3 at the
Exeter Legion Hall at 7
p.m. The admission is
$1.
Members of St.
Boniface C.W.L. held a
meeting on October 19,
beginning with the
"Living Rosary" before
the Mass for Vocations.
Twenty-nine members

held a birthday party for
the Blue Water residents
with October birthdays
on October 25.
There was a musical
program provided by.
some members of the
school choir.
Plans were made for a
bazaar on October 30.
Boxes are at the back of
the church for grocery
items to be used on
draws.
A thank you note and
gift will be sent to Donna
Klopp for preparing all
the meals for four days
at the arena, with help
from various groups,
during the plowing
match.
Rose (Joe) Regier gave
the treasurer's report
and Julie Gelinas gave
the roll call. Elaine
Keller gave the secre-
tary's report.
Martha Overholt and
Angela Watson agreed to
take care of the quilt
project again.
Glen Sippell of Port
Franks was the guest
speaker at the E.
Lutheran Women's
group October meeting.
He does volunteer work
with the Missions
Venture in Guelph. He
spends three weeks
every fall in Guatemala
and the Honduras area
helping build schools.
A cheque for his work
was presented by com-
mittee members Marge
and Jody Schilbe.
Don't forget to turn

hour before going to bed
on October 30.

United Church attended
the U.C.W. Regional
meeting in Crediton on
October 21.
Personals
Two well-known
retired priests, Fr. Finn
and Fr. Durand, both
passed away last week.
Bishop Sherlock said
their funeral masses at
St. Peter's Basilica in
London with several peo-
ple from Zurich attend-
ing.
Fr. Durand, a former
pastor of St. Boniface
Parish, was laid to rest
in Zurich on Saturday at
St. Boniface Cemetery on
October 23.
Pete and Yvonne
Jeffrey, RR #2 Zurich,
celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary on
October 22. A Mass on
Saturday afternoon was
said for their intentions
at St. Peter's Church, St.
Joseph by Fr. Sipek, fol-
lowed by dinner at
Bluewater holds textile collection
HURON PARK - Again this year, the
Bluewater Recycling Association will
be collecting textiles curbside from
Monday, Oct. 25 to Friday, Nov. 5 in all
municipalities the associate serves.
This two-week collection will allow
residents to recycle unwanted reusable
tr-..'.ile items.
The following are considered accept-
able textile products:
• Clothing - men's, women's and chil-
dren's
• Accessories - purses, belts, ties, etc.
• Outerwear - hats, scarves, coats,
gloves, etc.
• Footwear - shoes, boots, slippers,
overshoes, etc.
• Bedding - sheets, pillowcases, com-
forters, etc.
• Window coverings - curtains,
sheers ,etc.
• Linens - towels, tablecloths, etc.
• Stuffed toys
These items should be free of
mildew, thinners, grease or oils and
should not smell musty or of mothballs
or substances which could contaminate
other textiles during collection and
processing.
For collection, textiles should be
placed in plastic bags with either a
sock tied around the: neck or clearly
labeled "Textiles only":
Bagged textiles can then be placed
beside the blue. box on regular blue
box collection days during the period
from Monday, Oct. 25 to Friday, Nov.
5.
Hessenland. A reception
was held afterwards at
the banquet hall at
Hessenland.
Ivan and Marjorie
Meidinger celebrated
their 45th anniversary
on the weekend.
Tony and Adeline
Denomme celebrated
their 58th anniversary
on October 25.
Mary Regier returned
home last Thursday after
spending the past two
weeks visiting with
daughter Annette and
husband Mark Stephan,
and baby Emily at their
home in Tokyo, Japan.
Mary had accompanied
Annette back to Tokyo
on October 5.
While there she
enjoyed sightseeing and
touring places such as
Mt. Fuji and a Buddhist
temple.
The large crowds of
people and traffic were
overwhelming in Tokyo.
Mary was there for
Thanksgiving as well.
Josef and Martha Risi
spent the past three
weeks and Thanksgiving
in Switzerland visiting
with his relatives.
Eulene Ryder of
London spent the week-
end with her sister Nora
Corrivaeau at the Spruce
Vila Apartments.
Several friends and rel-
atives in the Zurich and
Dashwood areas attend-
ed the wedding of
Cynthia Stark and
Michael Castellucci in
Windsor at St. Gabriel's
Church on October 22.
Cynthia is the daughter
of Dave and Carolyn
Stark, Windsor, and a
granddaughter of
Therese Stark and Keith
Thiel, both of Zurich.
The couple will be living
in Essex.
Relatives from Holland
visited this past week in
Zurich at the home of
Doug and Rini Erb and

Keith and Helen
Gingerich returned home
recently from a two
week holiday visiting
daughter Ruth and

Rock, B.C. While there
they went to Whistler
Mountain, Vancouver
Island and Salts Springs
Island. They spent
Thanksgiving with their
niece there.
A joint surprise 40th
birthday party was held
at the Dominion Tavern
on Saturday night for
Rick Bedard (September
24) and his wife Patty
(November 11). Several
friends and relatives
were on hand to help the
couple celebrate.
