For more information phone 262- 2445. The Hensall Legion had guests Zone Commissioner Eric Ross and Deputy Zone Commander Bob Grey at their October meeting for their annual visit. The new Branch Padre Pirie Mitchell was initiated at the meeting. Motions were passed to donate $300 to Parkwood Hospital and $25 to the Week of the Child. Provincial Service Officer Randy Groundwater will visit Hensall legion on October 28 or 29. For an appointment with Groundwater, phone Larry Uyl at 262-2618. Remembrance Day Dinner tickets are now on sale. They are available from Legion members or at the branch. The guest speaker will be Ken Passmore, a former Hensall resident who was a bomber pilot in World War II. Have you paid your Legion dues? If not, why not be an "early bird", and pay them now? On November 3 the door-to- door poppy campaign will be held with the assis- tance of the cadets. A Covenanting Service was recently held at the Hensall United Church to celebrate the nev min- istry of Pirie Mitchell. Taking part in the service were Pat Pryde, Richard Hryniw, Michael Diamond, Jack Burghardt, Peter Wyatt, David Jagger, Laura Elder, Sarah Stoll, Andrew O'Neill, Jerry Kerr and choirs from East Nissouri Union Church, Parkhill United Church, Hensall United Church, The Emmanuel College Singers, Mark Garlough, Jennifer Alderdice, The Funeral Lunch Committees, and the Hensall United Church Worship Committee. At Hensall United Church, Pirie Mitchell's message was "Trick or Death?" The children's story was entitled 'Moe*. There will be an anniVersary service at Hensall United Church on November 14. The Rev. Jewitt Parr will be the guest speaker. His grand- father ministered at Hensall Methodist Church. The Amabile, Boys Choir will present a concert at Hensall United on November 21 at 7:30 p.m. For tickets pion Marg Cole at 262-2304. The Friendship Circle will pack a bale of good used clothes on November 1. Please drop off your donations at the church. Hensall residents are reminded that textiles will be collected on October 27 and November 3. Bluewater Recycling Association will collect items such as clothing, footwear, bedding and linens. Textiles should be identified by tying a sock around the bag or by labelling as "Textiles Only." Items should be to the curb by 7 a.m. like all other materials for the regular collection. Questions regarding acceptable materials should be directed to. Bluewater Reycling Association, at 1-800- 265-9799 (228-6678). Household Hazardous Waste will be collected at the Hensall Arena on Sunday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items considered corrosive, toxic, reactive and/or flammable will be accept- ed. Questions regarding acceptable materials slfould be directed to the Bluewater Recycling Association. The Hensall Parks Board will be cooking on - October 2.. Actually, Hensall Pizza and Subs and Jerry Rader will do the cooking, but the Parks Board will be serving It up at the Family Dinner, Hensall Arena at 5:45 p.m. This is a Week of the Child activity. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a din- ner of pizza, salad and ice cream. Area businesses and the Kinsmen club are providing door prizes also. Tickets should be purchased by 5 p m., October 20. Researc at the Universities of Alberta and B.C. are dol trials on echinacea to determine its effectiveness in boosting the immune system and fighting the common cold. Results should be available by January 2000. There's a lot of work being done on different ways of delivering insulin to diabetics. Besides an insulin nasal spray which may be available in a couple of years, work is being done on an insulin fah which delivers sustained quantities of insulin through the skin without 8 needier. Research is in the rat stage right now. Many people have benefitted from new antidepressants that have come on the market during the past decade. One thing to remember if you've been on these drugs for awhile, don't stop taking them cold -turkey. Some withdrawal effects can occur. Check with your doctor before stopping gny drug.
